x2 its a lot better, keeps you focused on the horizon/sunset instead of the whole bottom half of the photo

    Thanks!

In the future though instead of cropping the picture would you take it so that there is that much mountain and more sky? Or just crop it every time?

Really depends on what you want your viewers to look at first when they see the picture. If you frame it the way you cropped the sunset then the first thing I see is the sky as the main subject following the silhouette of the trees/mountain. Think of some creative angles/compositions to attract the viewers eyes to your main subject i.e. the sky of a sunset.

Also, try and use photoshop as a recovery tool more than an "easy" tool. What I mean is, it's really easy to get lazy and just say, "Oh well, I can fix that in photoshop" haha. It's a hard habit to break once it sets in! I used to do that shit all the time =\

YES! dont go out shooting in the mindset of *oh, ill just fix my white balance, crop, etc in photoshop* shoot in the mindset as if you were shooting film...get the exposure right, get the framing right etc

Alright thanks for the tip you two. I'll keep that in mind. Mostly all I do in PS is black and white and HDR's. Hopefully I wont fall on PS too much.

Drop the HDR and I think you're good to go :D

I have to say that learning PS is one of those things I've put off for a while and it does help a lot. Like using high pass filters for sharpening. Punching up the color. Dodging. Burning. Layers. PS helps make a picture better and it can help you restore old photos as well. Spend the time learning it and use it as appropriate.

The more you get right in camera, the better off you'll be.

Haha thanks man. I haven't done many HDR's and Im learning to appreciate the picture for what it is! I'm sitting in PS class right now. I think the only tim I will do the HDRs is on my truck just for fun but not serious pictures! :D

I've seen that before... That guy seems like such a prick. "I consider our type of photography o be photo journalism, but I feel like were beyond photo journalism because we have to have a special skill.". What a douche.

i was a papparazzo for 5 years... i never needed pepper spray nor did i ever see any other photogs with it in their bags...

unless of course you're one of the rude stalkerazzi photogs in which case i can see needing protection... saw plenty of that behavior before...

good stuff Wesley... make sure to get some high resolution scans of all your tearsheets for future porftolio usage... i have a lot of stuff in People Magazine and the Inquirer that I never scanned and i missplaced the actual pages out of the mags... now, I have no way to find the archives as the mags can't or won't search by name...
