Hey I've been looking at tw for a while, and finally got a tacoma (2006 silver access cab), and want to put some mods on it without breaking the bank. I'm on a pretty tight budget but just want it to look more aggressive, and wanted to get opinion on if this looks good or not/if ideas are ok, basically just outside thoughts cause im not sure.
    I'm thinking:
    1. Black out emblems,
    2. get rid of very yellowed headlights with smoked oem replacements
    3. powder coat stock rims with 275/70/r16 tires (tires are new so I dont really want to spend money getting new rims and tires yet, but want black look)
    4. new paint matched grille
    5. amber pod lights (thinking morimoto bc i want to use on roads)
    6. budget suspension lift/level (1.5-2in)
will post edited picture of what it might look like (horrible at editing but shows idea) when i figure out how to

Seems like you have pretty accurate expectations for upgrades for a small budget.

Keep in mind it's $400 minimum to powder coat wheels.. can probably find something aftermarket that looks better and is more aggressive for that much or less, or possibly 3rd gen SR5 take off's.

Bilstein 5100's or a spacer lift will be the cheapest options to raise it a bit.

Don't powder coat stock wheels. That's just throwing away money. If you take your time you can plastidip them and make them look good

    1. It would look great and it's cheap
    2. The photoshop looks like smoked film. Personally hate it.
    3. You can clean, sand, prime, paint and clear it yourself. Don't waste your money.
    4. Black looks great.just me
    5. It would look pretty good.
    6.Get one of blistein shocks.

Oh good to know, didn’t realize it was that expensive. those 3rd gen sr5 rims look way better anyways imo so I’ll definitely look for some, thanks for the idea!

Hahaha appreciate the input. Blacking out emblems then and getting some bilsteins seems to be the move, at least for now!

    1. Black out emblems….plastidip them.

    2. get rid of very yellowed headlights with smoked oem replacements……or you can sand and polish the ones you have now. Then bake them, open them up and paint them. That’s what I did and will cost you $10 for the paint

    3. powder coat stock rims with 275/70/r16 tires ….plastidip it. Don’t waste money on powder coat stock rims. Shop around on Craigslist for rims that you want. Can get 4Runner rims for $300 sometimes
    4. new paint matched grille……yeah. Don’t paint the chrome one. It will chip shortly.
    5. amber pod lights (thinking morimoto bc i want to use on roads)..
    6. budget suspension lift/level (1.5-2in)….don’t waste your money on spacers. Just save up a little more and get the bilstein 5100 for like $500. Or even cheaper if you get the used. Seen them locally for $150 here in cali

You can buy all the blacked out emblems on Amazon much easier and better looking than plasty dipping them and then trying to put your own tape on the back

Look in the for sale and trade section and you’ll see some third GEN suspension takeoff’s selling cheap. And all third GEN suspensions will fit on a second GEN

Yeah I’ve been hearing spacers aren’t very good, will do bilsteins. 4Runner rims work, though? Any specific year or as long as they’re 16in to fit tires they will work?

Black headlight mod > smoked lens

Gives an improved look but lens is still clear so it won’t affect light output

I can’t find the link for building them but it’s out there somewhere
Basically taking apart the headlight and putting it in the oven to warm the glue to separate lens from housing
    More disassembling, paint
Then reversing while adding more sealant

Got it, I will look to find something that shows how. Sorry, are the ones in the picture you sent already have the bhlm or are those the ones I should buy to do the mod on? Just want to make sure.
