Yes lol. I feel like an idiot now, so disregard my comments from the other day about West being pick-up hockey and the East being structured w/ top goalies etc. Looks like we just have a wide open type of playoff year lol. I still think Tampa still plays the way you need to play, in the playoffs. Last night they just looked off. We will see if they come back in game 2. They normally do. Rangers looked great though.

Here check this out. This includes the Canadians goal along with a few others. Within the context, makes complete sense. BUT the gray area for me is what you allow to be "possession." Also I do coaching clinics and we do drills on puck carrying. And we are taught to push the puck with the stick in 1 hand, as you stride. You don't have the puck touching your stick for most of that time but I would still consider that possession. So that's why this is so cloudy about this type of call, for me.

Watching that video actively makes one dumber, my brain hurts. After the first 60s and all I could think was that ice hockey was invented by the British, not Canadians. Also, in the first few seconds of the video the dude says there are 31 teams in the NHL lol. At 4:29 you see an obvious interference by EDM go uncalled and he doesn't comment on that, then says Makar wears number 3 two second before his no. 8 jersey comes clearly into the frame (this dude clearly knows the sitch). Nichushkin wasn't "deep in the EDM zone", he was maybe 10ft over the line, so the narrator is exaggerating to sway your opinion. Also, there is this thing called parallax, and you have to account for it. His angled view behind the play doesn't depict the real situation, you need to look directly down the blue line for that. This is the same for high-sticked pucks, only cameras at crossbar height can be used. So his video evidence is patently false. The shameless plug for his self-published book is the piss icing on this turd cake.

Funny video though! I'm sure he's just a troll, and I bit, but it's just too easy and fun to shoot these down. Why didn't he talk about the super soft calls EDM got throughout the game? Or the fact that this wasn't even close to the game-winning goal?

 

I played and coached the game for years. I put up the video as far as the analogy that canadian teams get a different set of rules from the four blind mice then they do in American teams.

 

But do you honestly believe that? Seems a bit far-fetched. Especially when the video also refuses to show the other angles of Makar's stick because those clearly show he was not touching it. Also, the video doesn't reference the given explanation. So to me, that video loses on all fronts and just sounds like ppl acting on emotion.

I just figured you would like to see a more reslistic point of view.

 

No I do not. I believe the referees are equally worthless at all levels. They might be a little better as the skill sets increase but they are human and make mistakes. It just seems that blatantly sometimes they seem to favor one team over the other. Each period is judged differently as well. But as far as favoring American teams over Canadian I don't think that's an accurate assumption by the author of video. I do find it interesting though.

Long time #1 Braves fan (fact) multitasking watching Braves-Rockies game and checking in on the Oilers- Aves game as secondary entertainment.

Update- Travis d'Arnaud - 3 for 3 hits, 2 home runs with the last being a grand slam, 6 RBI. Only the 5th inning, Braves lead Aves 9-1.

 

Colorado played a solid game tonight. They didn't let Edmonton bait them into run and gun. If they play like that, Oilers I don't think can beat them. Oilers need it to be a pick-up game, to have a shot.

 

Finally dropping in on this thread. Obviously I haven't gotten any playoff excitement in quite a few years but at least the wings finally got rid of Blashill.
Oilers looked pretty bad last night. I'm going with Colorado in 6.
Whatever happens I just don't want to see Tampa win again.

 

Lol I'm like on the fence about Tampa. I do think they are the most complete team remaining. I would be kind of annoyed if they 3-peat only because my team (Pens) had 2 chances to do it and couldn't (especially in '93 when we probably had our best team ever and somehow lost.) But at the same time, it would be pretty amazing to see a team do that, especially in today's era with player turnover etc.

 

It would be pretty amazing but I still don't want to see it. I definitely don't think they're as good as they were the last 2 seasons. I don't think I would put my money anywhere, as a lifelong wings fan I can't stand COL or NYR.
