How much heat do these little ammo can pits put out? They're like the size of a shoebox.

@phdog you bought one right? Have you had a chance to take it out? What is the heat output like?

I only used it on the patio, but it's not bad. I put lava rocks in it and I think that helps. If it was really cold you would probably need to sit right by it, but not really much different from a small campfire plus no smoke. However, I don't think it's going to be real useful as heat. Better than nothing but a real heater would be better if that's your focus. I wanted the "campfire" effect and be able to roast marshmallows and it's great for that and some heat as well.

Makes a decent flame once heated up and that was pretty low gas. It doesn't get huge, but I don't need a treetop scorching flame.

I made one of those ammo can firebox today, but the hose with adjustable regulator won't arrive until Tuesday so I can't test it out. Used 3/8" galvanized pipe and applicable fittings for 2 rows of burners (very small holes drilled about every 1.5"). No fire restrictions in place yet for so cal, so I've still got time to get it fired up, but so far stoked on how it turned out.

How many folks are using the biolite firepit? Looks like a slick system.
