What kind of strut are you running? Looks like 8112s with Camburg UCAs? I was thinking 285/75/R16s also... I've got a tune and feel like my truck could handle 285s without re-gearing. My 8112s will only accommodate a 2" lift with 650lb springs. I have a 130lbs on the nose now. If I do go to 285s, I would need a CMC and a small spacer lift in the front.

Bugs me that Toyota built a truck that really wasn't designed to be lifted or altered much. That's where the Jeeps shine IMHO. They designed a vehicle knowing full well that Jeep owners were going to modify their vehicles and that there would a huge aftermarket parts industry. Toyota, despite having seen what customers have done to their trucks since the mid 80s decided to design a truck, that while very capable, didn't lend itself all that easily to the aftermarket and alteration industry. Tacoma owners however, did what they wanted and now Toyota is offering OME lifts etc...

Ok... Kings... Similar to the 8112s but you get 2.5" instead of 2" of lift right? I think Icon is the only company that offers 3" of lift on their struts...

From the looks of it, it seems like I could easily go 3". If you look closely at my coils, you will see that they is a couple of inches of thread raising there. I am pretty sure I could go another 2 inches in height. I will likely take it to about 2.75 total increase. It rides smooth but has almost no lean. Feels like it has a rear sway bar now and washboard dirt roads feel like normal pavement.

I'm not sure on this, but you might want to look at the valving and travel of the internals of those struts by the manufacturer... You might have the treads to adjust that much lift, but doing so might damage the internals of the shocks in extreme travel situations. I would think you would want to follow the specs set forth by King. My Bilstein 8112s have plenty of threads to dial them up too, but according to Bilstein you are not supposed to and if you do, you risk compressing the internals of the shock and damaging them...

Don't know about Kings... but from the manufacturer it says:

25001-119A - King 2.5 Front Remote Reservoir Coilovers with Adjuster for 2005-Current Toyota Tacoma (6 lug)

King’s line of original equipment manufacturer, (OEM), shock upgrade kits provide a bolt on suspension system that elevates your on and off-road performance to unmatched levels. Each kit has been subjected to punishing real world testing to develop the optimal damping curves and spring rates for your vehicle. Built with the same quality of materials and precise tolerances found on our high-end race shocks the OEM upgrade kits enable you to experience the famous King ride quality on your daily driver or prerunner.

Built with race winning design features the 2.5 front remote reservoir coilovers with adjuster comes complete and provide simple 100% bolt on installation with no cutting or welding done to your vehicle. King 2.5 Front Remote Reservoir Coilovers provide an adjustable ride height and up to a 25% increase in wheel travel. Rear kits typically allow a 15% travel increase. Large 2.5” diameter shock bodies and external reservoirs dramatically increase fluid capacity and heat dissipation to provide sustained damping performance even under the most punishing conditions. OEM upgrade shocks feature the same serviceable design that allows for valve adjustments with simple hand tools just like our race shocks.

Our experienced shock technicians are a phone call away to help should any questions arise during installation or use. Front coilover kits are available ready to bolt into stock vehicles or with custom lengths for vehicles running lifted aftermarket suspensions. Once you ride on Kings you will know there really is a difference. Nothing rides like a King.

    • Sold as a pair
    • Fits 2005-Current Toyota Tacoma
    • Designed for the best ride at 2" of lift
    • Measurements: Extended - 21.687", Collapsed - 16.75"

When you order them, you can get long travel or shorter travel. I am pretty sure mine were rated to 3 inches, not 2.5. In fact, I specifically remember that when I ordered them. I did that because I was planning on not going to 3, but I wanted to be able to even out left and right at 2.5 ish to compensate for lean.

oh and I put 700lb springs and it rides like butter. As for 285's, I believe that the tire fit issue is all about proper offset and wheel width. There is plenty of people that are running 285's with no CMC. Problem is everyone gets that ugly outward FROGSET offset that sticks tires way out and causes the arc of the tire to hit the rear cab. With factory offset, I have seen stock trucks running 285's with almost no rub. There are videos of it. I am positive I could put 285's on my truck now with no rub. On factory offset wheels. not 9 inch wide, massive offset atrocities that you commonly see.

Yea... I'm sure you are right...

Having said that, the factor offset on the 16x8 TRD OR wheel is +25mm. On the TRD Pro 16x8 wheel, the offset is 13mm. My Methods are 16x8 with 0mm offset. That only pushes the tire out 1/2" more than the Pro wheel and about 1" out more than the OR wheel. They are still tucked under the fenders and I was rubbing on turns and off-road until I trimmed the rear fender liner. I still may need to trim more. The new 650lb springs I put on to compensate for the winch and bumper has lifted my front end and it may be ok. Dead center of the front wheel, from the ground to the bottom of the front fender I am at 37 5/8". But, I am pretty sure I'd still need a CMC to run 285/75/R16s. Now, 285/70/R16s might not rub... but those are pizza cutters (10.2" wide compared to 11.2" wide or something like that).

I like the looks of that. How did you achieve the 1” lift in the front and back?

It’s a Headstrong 1.5” AAL in the rear (which ended up at just over 1” lift with my camper shell on) and the front is just some .5” thick aluminum top plate spacers made by Streetrays (which give 1” of lift because of the geometry of the suspension… Lift = about 2xs spacer thickness). I’m not normally a spacer lift kinda guy, but these were $35 and didn’t require me to disassemble the struts, so they were cheap and easy. Larger spacers can put too much leverage on your shocks and damage them, but these .5” are not big enough to worry about that and they have been working out great. I have about $250 into my whole setup and it rides like factory and has been working out great.

I appreciate the info as I am looking into a very moderate 1”-1.5” lift without breaking the bank and eventually going with 265/75r16.

Is that a 2” front and 1” rear lift?

Thanks! 2” in the front and about 2” in the rear. I did the Deaver AAL and left the overload in.
