If they dig and pour a continuous footer (not piers) below the frost line, lay block up to the same height as the existing foundation (anchoring as they go), then pour a slab on top of the q decking that has rebar protruding into it that has been drilled into the band/rim joist it won’t budge. This is how we do our porches.

the angle brackets you mentioned would work for tying the blocks together but I bet your contractor can install wall anchors/ties that are hidden in the mortar joint.

Then again, I’m just a guy (maybe lol) on the internet

Can you post up some pictures? I don't think we all get what you're trying to install.

Replace rotten wood with new ply/osb. Then flash it correctly with peel and stick products and metal. Talk to your contractor lol

Thank you. I will give that try.

The pressure tank is on the hot side, and the issue happens when cold water is running. If that is the case, then pressure is running through my water heater? I never considered that.

I will look into this this afternoon.

    Thanks again.

Did the siding contractor include the framing repair in his estimate?

I think it included all the underlayment, but I have no idea. My wife was the one who talked to them on the phone.

No sense putting siding on til you address rot and the water intrusion

unless you plan to sell immediately lol

My house (built in mid 60's) is sheathed with various width 1x boards. The roof is sheathed with full 1" thick boards that doubled as the foundation form boards.

This is a pumphouse I'm rebuilding

when I worked in Vancouver in the late 80's we renovated an old 3 storey building downtown that had subfloors on each level that were clear fir 2x4's on edge , nailed tight to each other spanning the full length and width of the building over 10"x 16" clear fir beams on all 3 floors

If you’re attaching the 2x ledger as in the diagram, I put a 30*-45* bevel at the top of the ledger (bevel away from house) then have the flashing mold to the bevel. Install joists. When installing the deck board, keep a 1/2”-1” gap from house to inside edge of first board. This gives the water a place to go. If this isn’t done, water will find a place to go and usually a bad place.

I wish I had pictures of my old hose but it had 2 x whatever pushed together tightly as "siding". Some of the boards were over 14" wide. There was a 20" in the attic used for flooring. Built circa 1900
