Thoughts on 2026+ Models containing “anti drunk driving” technology?

Since federal law now requires all 2026+ vehicles to have “anti drunk driving” technology, how do you feel about it?

Who knows? Lmao, but it’s federal now for all vehicles.

 

“I feel like”… you need to provide a link to the law or at least an article with sufficient details so we know what the hell you’re talking about.

 

How is the vehicle supposed to know I’m drunk? Instant lawsuit, i don’t drink, it’s illegal to assume I do.

Read the article posted above. No specific technology is defined in the law so there are a number of ways automakers could use different technologies to identify impaired drivers other than active or passive BAC monitoring

 

Another example of government mandate by hand waving magic- no specific details of the method or technology, just do it!

What could possibly go wrong.

 

I feel like federal law does not require all 2026+ vehicles to have this technology.

 

Only problem is all the people I know who drive drunk can't afford a new car so it's useless to them. They spend all their money on alcohol.

 

Possibly a back-handed way for big gubment to require network connectivity because they need to know where you are pesky citizen.

Government overstepping its’ bounds instead of prosecuting those who break the law. Ridiculous technology that will add to the price of a vehicle.

 

My wife and I own a small store, we have some customers who have had multiple DUI's and continue to drive, even without a license. They don't do anything to them and unfortunately it's the innocent who pay for their stupid decisions and lack of the system doing it's job.

 

"I feel like" most adults should be up to speed on most legislation / politics within their own country. The infrastructure bill was passed back in November.

I have heard of court ordered ignition interlocks, but those usually don't happen until some kind of conviction.

I also heard that in certain regions of the country narcan will become standard equipment in vehicles.
