You don't have to be in the military for this, you make the choice to stay a current resident of this country. (As I have not served in the military, I will not even try to comment on that aspect of it.)

What I will comment on is this particular post. I lived in a 3rd world country, in 3rd world conditions, for 2 solid years straight. I learned a lot of humility, and valuable lessons as to what is really important. Most of our country has no idea how easy we have it here, and as a whole we're unhappier than those that have much less than us.

I too, every day, miss how simple life was when I didn't have to worry about someone scratching my truck or getting ticketed for crossing the street where I wasn't supposed to.

I also realize that the fact that I am writing this on a computer in my carpeted home, surrounded by drywall, with the washing machine running in the background. waiting for pizza delivery, is a luxury that comes at a cost, and at any time I am welcome to leave the country and go live wherever I want.

Right! Too many people don't understand that soldiers (and Marines, Airmen, Sailors, etc) in combat must have a strong desire to see their enemy hurt or killed in a violent manner. If you haven't been in combat then this might seem wrong, but remember this: you don't understand.

Also, too many people are too quick to assume we're murderers and never consider what the enemy would do if they had the opportunity.

I agree, I miss Afghanistan and east africa. I miss the life and the comeraderie with some of the best men I've ever known. Civilian life, while nice can never measure up. I was medically rejected from rejoining the service last week and am still bummed about it. Im working on a degreee in disaster relief nad emergency management right now as a way to get back there and do some good.

    Thank you for your service.

I hope that someday you can find peace here in the states and enjoy the beautiful country that you defend. Untill then, be safe and keep the rest of our men and women safe.

ohh for the all the people who gave me neg rep, I dont care but how about you sign your comments. At least I have the balls to stick by my opinions, all of you that directed negitive comments towards me cant say that. "Your stupid" "Neg rep for you retard" ect. At least man up to what you think. And to the guy who told me to grow up. PISS OFF. I am pretty sure I have seen more of the world and of human nature than you ever will. That being said I am sorry if you dont agree with my views. I stated half way through this post that I was ranting about how I hate the petty bs that people bitch about and I miss the simplicity of being deployed. Half of you turned it into a I hate america and love to murder thread. whatever.

    x1000

What you describe is exactly what 10,000 other guys describe: As long as their minds are occupied, they're just fine. Outside that, the world crowds in in a huge way. It's not a good way to live, because there's no way to keep your mind occupied all the time.

There's help available and no shame in asking for it either, brother. I see you list your location as Colorado. Don't know if that's home or if you're based at Fort Carson. I have good friend in the Springs who works with guys from Fort Carson via Tricare. You are always welcome to PM me if you want his name & I am sure he can fill you in on procedure. Best of luck to you. :)

I appreciate the help but I am a seasoned warfighter. This is my PREFRENCE, Its what I enjoy and it has meaning for my country. There are bigger things in life than me.

But sooner or later the wars come to an end. And then what? There's nothing bigger in this life than you, if you aren't well enough to enjoy your life. Hey Joshua, it's great you're venting. That's a hell of a lot more than a lot of guys do. Just know you never walk alone with that shit. The mind is a complex thing. You've been to Hell. Just know it's the guys who think they're immune to it all who end up breaking.

This is where you and I differ. You believe there is nothing in life bigger than yourself and I know that my personal existance is nothing compared to the the lives of the 18 year old kids I am charged with taking to and bringing back from a conflict. That I am nothing compared the mission I am charged with executing. I am nothing compared to the country I defend. Most soldiers, true soldiers feel the same way. Haveing this responcibility is why I have worth and pride.
