Most people are going to tell you new spring pack entirely with that type of constant load. And while I wouldn't say they're wrong, that's not my preferred method to deal with a heavy load.

My choice would be an add-a-leaf, plus air bags. You want tunability to get the best, most stable ride possible. Especially given you're living out of your truck. That combination will cost you about as much as new leaf packs. I'd upgrade the shocks too. The factory sport shocks are stiff, but they're not what I would consider beefy.

Plan for an add a leaf or heavier leaf pack. The rear doesnt resist weight well

There are instances where you need to get a car. Shopping around takes time and resources. If you can afford to wait, all the power to you. If you cannot wait, have no car, and the car you want and need is at a markup over MSRP, there is a trade-off to make.

You state do not pay over MSRP, and wait it out. My reply is, what should the person do who cannot wait because of the need for a car. You haven't addressed any of the cost-factors I provided that should be examined when shopping for a replacement vehicle. You also stated that you could afford to wait to buy your wife's new car. How long did you wait? Did she have a vehicle to use in the interim? If she had a working vehicle, then the dynamics change big time.

The position you have taken reminds me of this guy I met on the street in Montreal about 20-25 years ago. I am in Montreal this one night, and the Canadiens were playing. The game was sold out, but there were scalpers on the street. Me and my buddy wanted to go. (This was at the old Forum). I went around from scalper to scalper. There was this other guy shopping, too. This one scalper wanted $80 for the pair, I passed. I thought I could do better. So did the other shopper. After I went around and found out that I couldn't, I returned to the scalper. The other shopper was there, too, hoping the scalper would drop his price. Well, I asked the scalper if he still had them, and he replied, "Yes." Then I told him I'd take them for $80. The other shopper was upset that I took the scalper's asking price. He tried to interrupt my purchase and the scalper told him, "You had your chance" and he walked away...

Different people have different perceptions of what is a fair cost to them.

To me, it's absurd to go without a vehicle, pay for cabs and rental vehicles, call in favors for rides, and spend a lot of time to find the car I want and need in a effort to get the vehicle at an arbitrary price that probably hasn't been adjusted for inflation.

yes that is correct. Over MSRP=being ripped off. There are times when you need to accept being ripped off but that doesnt change what is happening.

no one is justifying living on a friends couch. That would suck. So would being ripped off paying over sticker. We are just calling it what it is. I have been ripped off plenty of times and I am sure there is more to come. But I don't try to justify it with all sorts of rationale.

Hey man, if you're OK paying over MSRP, then you're OK getting ripped off. That's all there is to it. Stay on a friend's couch, don't stay on a friend's couch. Don't care. At the end of the day you're justifying overpaying for a pile of metal and plastic.

2500 over MSRP for a new truck isn’t a huge ripoff.

5 or 10k over MSRP for a used truck is a huge ripoff. I can’t believe what a total scam it seems like everything in this country is now. When did everyone become so damn greedy?

I have a search set on cars.com for 2019 or newer Tacomas with less than 20k miles. The prices are appalling.
