Sweeeeeet. I love hearing different exhaust setups on our 3rd gens. They always produce a nice throaty rumble (twss) that just sounds so good. I don't know what it is. I saw a YouTube clip of a guy who had a black widow muffler on his 3rd gen 4R. I'll try to drop the link here. It sounds I N C R E D I B L E.

I'm not a fan of "zoom zoom" mufflers, but I gotta say that I like the sound of that one. It gives a bit of a throaty rumble at idle. His 3rd gen is just soooo nice, it makes me embarrassed ( a little bit ) of my crusty critter. I'm about ready for another muffle and tail pipe. In the fall of 2020 I was driving around and I kept hearing some sort of rattle in the back, I though that maybe the upper shock mount finally broke through. Nope, the tail pipe was hanging off of the diff and bouncing around.. I was trying to get a Bosal cat back from Rock Auto to match the Bosal cats that I had installed a year earlier, they were back ordered indefinitely so I ended up going to budget muffler in BelAir and got a hack job of a muffler and tail pipe installed for $250. I guess that I got what I paid for but I will never go back there. Last summer the trip to CO put a few good smacks on the muffler and the tailpipe is tweaked and smashed into an oval in a few spots. Damn rocks.. Now the muffler is extra crusty and the shit welds are starting to fail, so the runner wants more $$ to be spent of her.

 

I tell you what, any rattle that's exhaust related is such an annoying pain in the arse. Literally. I have a rattling heat shield on my upstream cat and I can't get it to stop. I've tried large hose clamps, installing a new bolt and nut, even with a washer, but it just won't. stop. rattling. I'm at the point to where I just want the thing off now. I tried manhandling it by pulling it away from the cat itself, but it somehow finds its way back and starts rattling again. It might just be time to cut the thing off completely.

If I had to do another exhaust job, I'd spend the money on that Black Widow muffler that's shown in the video. That thing just sounds like angels singing to me, lol. I paid $107.80 out the door for my

Borla 40665 from Amazon, plus $150 for labor to have it welded on. Now I'm no welder, but I know weldp*rn when I see it. They definitely didn't stack dimes when welding it on, but it'll do.

Did you have to buy the voltage regulator box as well, or did yours work fine with no “hyper flash”?

 

If it helps, I have a 2020 as well and didn’t need the resistor.
That said, the lights will hyperflash if you are in reverse and use your turn signal.

Mine works fine without the regulator. I have a 3rd Gen SR5. So I’d say try it without spending the money on the regulator first, might save you some cash!
