This would totally work too but adding the fluid would be tedious doing this compared to just loading it all into the sprayer.

@Alexely999 You’d be surprise that it is not that tedious. One may need a stool or step ladder depending on the height differences but materials cost less, otherwise, and ATF flows down relatively quickly. With less materials used, there is also less chance of contamination.

I guess I was thinking the tedious part would be dumping the atf in the funnel because as the trucks running it took in the entire spray container full of atf in less than 20-30 seconds.

or with the funnel method is the engine off?

Gotcha, yes, gravity method is more tedious that way, but really not as bad as you think.
After draining the ATF pan, you usually remove 3 qts. I add 4 qts to the tranny. Then turn on the engine and remove two qts via a coolant ATF line. Turn off engine and add two qts again. Pump out two. Add two. You can stop here or do another cycle. You will end up with an extra qt in the pan which is removed during the temp check procedure.

i’ve done this same gravity procedure or our Lexus ES350 and sister’s N200t.

I like that process. I need to do mine now that I've got 120k on my truck.

Used a gallon jug and measured 3.5 qrts. Filled it with 4 qrts. Used the pump from the transmission to get the fluid out. 12 qrts of Maxlife was used. Every 30K after that I drained what was in the pan. 80K I installed a deeper pan which gave me 3 qrts of extra fluid. Currently at 115K and won’t touch it till 150K.

@ARB1977 Where did you get the deeper pan and about how much more ATF does that add? For your catch container, consider the graduated buckets, usually in the paint section. They have quart and liter marks and you can get three or five gallon buckets.

Honestly I dont trust a local shop to know how to check the level and get it right.
