I have no experience with OTT, but I drove the other tune with the same exact behavior described by you. That's why it caught my attention.

In described conditions(5th gear on the hills), it provides 0 benefits. The truck cannot accelerate, cannot downshift.

In 3r and 4th, it provides a smooth acceleration without dropping 200 rpms in the middle of it.
The whole issue with tuning TC is limited to turning SLU on/off, but instead we should be playing with a pressure applied to the clutch to change TC from fully locked to a partial state. But yet I'm not sure if it is healthy for tranny at 2500 rpms and 100%load

So OTT / We do not modify those.. Its very important to me to keep the transmission and associated parts cool and working as the Toyota engineers designed them. I haul heavy and its something I was never going to compromise in our calibration.

What it can do is make the truck feel "sportier" if not locking the trans at appropriate points. We gain a sporty feel with the torque and power we make by tuning the truck a different way from others I guess. Justin and I agree that well take some slip lock and full lock at appropriate places and give up a bit of "feel" to keep everything cool.. I'm with @Vlady on this...

I'm not sure how others tune their trucks, so this is just speaking as what OTT does with SLU and Full Lock.. While I wont give up the sauce and provide all the details of how we do it, I'm with Toyota on this one guys..

    Best,

    John

Nope. I did not mistype 350. That's a feedback I got on my issue with the tune.

It's amazing how easily information can get skewed. This was my statement dear friend...

Gotcha. And for clarification, this a different tune you are referring to, correct? Not OTT? I see that you said you haven't tried OTT yet. I don't want people getting confused.

That correct. I was considering it, but was waiting for some driving reviews that are outside of a typical oohh-ahhh reviews . I'll wait a bit longer

You stated this as if I told you 350⁰ was normal operating temperature and ok to be sustained. It was a worst case scenario type situation... Just to be clear.

Can you guys take this to the Nexiwerks Crunchwrap Supreme Thread (or whatever it’s named this week)? Not sure this is the place for this.

I don't change the TC lock/UL in 5th so its not so much the calibration. I haul a 1600lb Camper and need that in 4th, 5th and 6th. The stock table is used and that's normal operations. When you are on the gas the converter will unlock as designed and the temps will increase. When you crest the hill or reduce throttle and meet convert lock engagement parameters the converter will lock and temps will then reduce as designed.. You are not doing anything incorrectly :)

    Best,

    John

I went ahead and got my OTT 7 Tune done by @trdquoc when he came to Las Vegas on May 10th. Nice guy to do business with. He recommended I do the mild/medium tune. I have filled my tank 5 times since then and checked my MPG on every fill up. My gas mileage has improved in both city and highway driving. I just got 22 mpg driving home from Cedar City to Vegas last weekend with some headwind. Best before the tune was 19.5 mpg. I was driving on cruise control at 75 mph. Running 87 gas. Tire psi is 34. Truck has 2 inch lift with 265/75 x16 Falken Wildpeaks standard load tires. I had a load of 3 adults and luggage and coolers. In town I'm getting better gas mileage as well. I filled up today and got 19.4 mpg. I was averaging 17 before the tune. I have a theory why this tune helps me get better gas mileage. I don't need to push the gas peddle very much to get moving up to the speed limit and then I release the pressure on the pedal and the truck is able to maintain speed. The torque with this tune at lower RPM's is helping me. I also don't have a heavy foot on the pedal. I am driving conservative to see what this tune can generate in mpg's. I know I was not promised any mpg gains from buying this tune but I wanted to give honest feedback from a customer that it did work for me. Plus the truck is more fun to drive!

Q, I have told other Tacoma owners about my results and they may be interested in getting tuned. You may need to plan another trip to Vegas to help them out.

PM @Boltripper or @JustDSM. A non-trivial update was released recently.
