anyone else see this article on pinkbike today?
    https://www.pinkbike.com/news/unwobbler-made-in-canada-truing-stand.html

wooden true stand for bike wheels? for ~$160ish. looks like a pretty decent deal for what it is. other truing stands ive looked at (Park Tools) are like $300 for one that has gauges on both sides. there are some cheaper metal ones but you have to flip the wheel back and forth.

surely it can fit 29 rims in there with a 2.5 or 2.7 tire? that was a problem with some older stands they had at the shop, mainly 29+ wheels, but those aren't too common now

    Yeah.
LOL, I use zip ties on the bike, lol. I laced a front wheel once and trued it on the fork. Took a while but was good enough. No dish needed, though, that might be tough.

ive been using zip ties on my chain stays for awhile. the front wheel is a little trickier, but i manage.

my quiver is growing though and a truing stand has been on my want list for awhile.

    not enough.
yeah. i saw that and the immediate thought was, "how are they keeping it consistent?" it feels like the wood would wobble and move too much.....

My last bike had a reverb that I literally never touched for maintenance in 3+ years of riding. Slowish in cold, had the dumb button lever, but worked reliably. My V2 One Up has been quite nice too so far.

Similar for me. I think I was close to a pop in a skiing incident a few years back. It was 2-3 years before I didn't notice it any more.

I've been pretty happy with my Magura brakes after figuring out a bleed issue initially. I have the E-bike version of the MT5 I think. The pads are loud as hell though unless you are on sustained downhill for long periods. They need to go. Good power and lever feel though.

Regarding dropper reliability: I bought my current bike (2015 Santa Cruz Tallboy 2) exactly seven years ago, with a KS Lev external cable dropper. It almost immediately stopped popping up and was rebuilt under warranty. Since then it continues to function flawlessly, though I replaced the lever with an under-the-bar Wolftooth lever a few years ago. I’m not sure how many rides I’ve done in those seven years, but I only started using Strava four years ago, and I’ve recorded a little over 4000 miles since then. Since I think ride about the same average annual mileage, that suggests I have almost 7000 miles on my KS Lev. Pretty good I think, considering that I’ve replaced most of my drivetrain twice, plus a few brake rotors, pedals, pivot bearings, fork and shock rebuilds etc. My wife’s Ibis is about the same age, KS Lev internal dropper, same problem when new, no issues since and she maybe even rides a bit more than me. Conclusion: KS had some production quality issues based on our experience, but the durability of the design and materials is excellent. And no problem getting getting the repairs under warranty, though our LBS gets some credit there too.

    Stuff. Also things.
Called my LBS at 3:30 yesterday afternoon intending to just get an appointment for a preseason checkup. Instead, their lead mechanic told me he’d be happy to look it over if I could get it in before 4:30.

I ended up dropping everything (work will be there on Monday, right? :D) and took it in. Dude was SUPER COOL and ended up getting me a better true on my front wheel and got everything else checked out and ready to rock. When I asked what I owed them, he told me nothing and just to come back again.

It was a really cool thing and I’m so damn glad I have a great LBS minutes from my house.

I absolutely love it. It’s so good it would be a hard choice between electric shift and electric dropper.

my tiagra 2x10 levers on my commuter got pretty banged up on my last fall. figure its time to put the 2x10 105s ive had in a box for awhile on.

im over thinking this right? both are 2x10 shimano. levers will work with the derailleurs right?

You would be executed by the trail gestapo in Alabama if you rode when it was that wet here. Granted I know it’s normal in the pnw given soil conditions.

Yep normal here. They even offered me a traditional meat sandwich, and ceremonial fermented breverage for my sacrifice. o_O
