I have been hearing a clunking noise for a little while. Eventually turned into play in the upper control arms. Bought new bushings and went to replace them this weekend. Only to find out that the play isnt in the actual bushing. The bolt itself in the shock tower has play in it. What do I do now? (Im running spc uca’s)

Also I torqued them to 85ft lbs with loctite when installed

Just to clarify are you referring to the bolt/stud that holds the top hat in place (larger stud in the center)? Or the three bolts that secure the coil over to the shock tower?

Mine do the same, about to do some double shear gussets which should help take that factory play away.

I am referring to the bolt holding the upper control arms on. There is play in in the tube that the bolt passes through

Went right over my head.. have not heard of that really being an issue but not surprised. As mentioned some coil bucket gussets would help with that.

Have you reached out to SPC? I’ve been chasing a rattle on mine (SPC, OME 888) and I thought I tracked it down to normal play in the front axles. How did you determine you have play in the bolt if if the nut is tight?

Did you torque the UCA bolt with the tires lifted off the ground just after the install or with the truck lowered back down with the tires on the ground?

I torqued them in the air as stated in the spc install guide (because of xaxis bushings). I just finished replacing the xaxis spc bushings which are absolute garbage in my opinion with normal old rubber spc bushings I purchased off of bilstein lifts. Found some wear on the bolt, replaced the bolt and bushing and my problem was solved. I will be creating a writeup on the replacement of the xaxis spc bushings because there isnt much info out there.
