I'm telling you.. it's worth every penny.. you do need a dust collection system too though.. otherwise you'd have a damn mess but if you keep making those cutting boards.. it's almost a requirement. This is the one I bought and I haven't used it enough but I couldn't imagine not having it now.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
You could do the router method. That's pretty effective

Finally got a table done for a buddy of mine. Well table/ bar. Was my first time working with black steel pipe as a base. Really enjoyed it but man was it tidious getting the legs the same length.

dimensions were 10ft by 13 inches using wooden bowling alley flooring that was actually salvaged from an old bowling alley. Stained with watco wipe on cherry stain and 5 coats of polyurethane.

also anchored it to the floor drilling through slate tile and into the subfloor. Solid as a rock.

Almost $500. Yes…….$500 for pipe. I’m sure it would be cheaper if I got longer stick and cut and threaded myself but not sure I want to invest in that.

Looks great! Interested in why you went with a modified truss head screw head versus a flat head like the flanges are countersunk for?

Right. I figured as much. But a similarly sized flat head screw with a black zinc finish would have been my choice, since the tile and substrate were pre-drilled.

Just wondering why he chose to go that route is all.

    Thanks for the compliment!

Fair question, they actually desired a gold color to contrast the dark grey and they ended up getting those for me to mount it with. Of course a lot of the holes fell on grout lines but ended up getting almost 20 or so screws mounted so it was plenty stable enough.

Grizzly has a sale that ends today on a few sanders. Some are also on sale till July. I’ve been looking at the 12 1-2” grizzly and Shop Fox. Free shipping on a couple too!

I found a 1931-1932 Bailey Stanley #3 hand plane for 20 bucks today. The blade was in upside down, and it looks like a sharpening attempt was made with a file. Since it couldn't work anymore I guess somebody tossed it on a shelf and there it sat.
A young man inherited the machine shop I found it at, from his grandfather.
I spent about 2 hours after morning church getting it cleaned up, and the back of the blade flat and polished.
When I flipped it to start fixing the primary bevel it had been filed or ground completely off square. So another two hours to get the primary set.
Here is a photo of another aqua fortis test no sand paper straight off the plane on a piece of cut off scrap.

    One photo is 10x magnification.

The edges were just blocked planed afterwards to keep my son from bashing himself or someone else with a sharp edge. 16544873419205877021607814460867.jpg 16544873893728214820250727261333.jpg 16544874117435491181246521358073.jpg 1654487482936739706801117926016.jpg 16544875129338044162737716557998.jpg

Ok here is the finished shaker style step stool.
Two coats of aqua fortis (ferric nitrate) then heated with a heat gun, then rubio pure.

A few small errors, but I am getting better everyday.

The aqua fortis really looks awful untill you heat it, then it just looks very bad, untill you add a oil. Then to my eye it is gorgeous.
