A lot of comments about how San Francisco has changed and people are avoiding it.

Years ago, during summer vacation from college, I got a job on Long Island, NY. Some of the local guys decided they would take me "into the city" for an experience. Five locals and me. We drove to a place where we could get on the subway and I noticed on the way that every cop I saw was busy. Chasing, cuffing, guys against the wall being frisked. There was a place where people were throwing bricks at each other from across a street. The local guys made a point of telling me to not look people in the eye or talking to anyone as we entered the subway.
We got to Madison Square Garden and I'd been seeing people passed out in the gutters and all kinds of other weirdness.
The guys were obviously a little freaked out... paranoid... and they were locals!
So somebody says they are hungry and suggests we find a place to, "Get a slice." (colloquial term for a pizza)
No one knew where to get it and a big discussion ensued. They went back and forth and back and forth and nobody was coming up with anything that would get us a slice because none of them knew the city well enough to really know where a place was to get one.
I suggested we ask someone... and the universal response was a look like I was crazy and a vehement, "NO!"
There was a guy standing twenty feet away. A tall, skinny guy in foot tall platform shoes... his entire outfit pink sequins including a rather large pink sequined bolero hat... so while everyone was busy arguing I walked over and asked the guy where we could get a slice of pizza. He was very polite, giving me clear directions, and I thanked him and he said I was welcome and when I returned to the group they were all very silent and we went to get some pizza.

Seriously... I've been in some places where the locals are terrified of each other, and this is a typical experience. It seems like the more fear or aggression you show the more likely it is to have a problem. Or maybe I've just been lucky... LOL.

Yes! Bad people live everywhere, Awareness, of people and the surroundings, is a hard way to live. Always trust you instincts, when something feels wrong, or not right, trust that feelings. It will save you.

Anyone train in any type of martial arts? Boxing, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, etc. besides guns.

Yep, I boxed amateur and pro. Long time ago. Taught me a lot, gave me discipline and confidence. I still put on the gloves and work out on the heavy bag. It came in handy growing up in the city of Oakland California. I can still punch but my current bobbing, weaving, ducking and slipping punches leave a lot to be desired. Basically I move like an old guy but can still punch, jab, hook, cross and upper cut.
I still remember my trainer saying a zillion times - stick and move, stick and move……..anyone who has ever boxed on a high level has heard that repeatedly.

I really like what you posted, especially the one that says ,

“To be old and wise, you must be young and stupid”. So true , we all learn (most of us) from our mistakes.

To gain any “experience “ is the willingness to challenge one shelf. To explore, the DIY people, and doing what you never did before.

I think that is what she said?

Boxing I believe is one of the most effective arts! And Taekwondo uses the legs , a very powerful muscle group. Legs helps in keeping distances.

Off course using the the “speech /mouth wisely” gives the most protection. Anytime you can walk away safety , makes you the winner.

Well gas jumped 50 cents here in a week. Was $4.49 a gallon and now it's $4.99 Unfortunately I gotta drive the truck to work for the next 3 days due to rain. I filled it up a week ago and it's still full since I only drove it once. I just hate the idea of working to support a vehicle.

Kona ,Hawaii Costco, June 5, 2022 this morning. 87-$5.31, premium $5.77, ethanol free $5.85
In town a few days ago, was 87- $5.74

Two 5 gal containers + 1/2 tank in truck, total $95. Tomorrow is my wife’s Camry + one more 5 gal , ethanol for farm equipment.

Gasoline prices will never be like B-4
Leilehua High school days , 33 cents a gallon. Often I will buy only a dollar worth to get home.

Gas in Elk Grove Ca. this morn at ARCO (cheaper than most), $6.09/gallon. In high school I worked in a Chevron gas station 1966 to 1967, regular was 27 cents a gal. and as an employee the owner gave me 2cents a gallon discount = 25 cents per gallon. My car had a big V8 but a dollar worth is all I needed take my date to the drive in and up to the Oakland hills afterwards. Life was good, simple and cheap.

“….have picked all the low hanging fruit..”. “the real gems of wisdom still out of reach..”

I live on a coffee farm with very tall “Mango, Avocado trees. Yes,
the lower hanging fruits can be pick by hand, but real gems are pick by a long pole picker.

“Perhaps the real gems are in reach with the right picker? “ Never say never…

Actually, you make a slurry with water, then the media. I'm guessing I wasn't "slurry" enough. Obviously, should have been more beer involved.

Aye captain , the dilithium crystals are breaking up, she’s going to blow. We’re in Klingon territory and all we have is impulse drive. Fire the photon torpedoes.
