Honestly, we’ve had a few of these types here with Tacomas as well. Bronco Dude probably had an AFE intake and one of those goofball oil-soaked performance filters on the Bronco, which led to him dusting his engine.

Modern people, by and large, have no idea of how to operate a vehicle off road and not damage it.

It seems more applicable with the vehicles being made now with all the chips, gears and gizmos. They are overly complicated. I like creature comforts but I also appreciate simplicity.

Possibly, but did you continue reading the article?

"Another owner posted a video on Reddit of the failure. He said he was simply driving normally when a “check engine light came on and started flashing. Strong smell of fumes/exhaust started coming into the cabin and bronco started shaking.”

And there’s a growing list on the Bronco6g owners forum of the engine failures. As of May 31st, 50 Bronco owners who have reported engine failures. All at low miles with many engines on the list having less than 5,000 miles; others under 3,000. Ford is aware of the problem, with a spokesperson telling The Drive at the end of April that any owners affected will be covered by the vehicle’s warranty."

It should be noted that the Bronco's engine issues are largely centered around the 2.7. And while I haven't heard as much hoopla about it, I've seen the innards of brand new Ecoboost V6's from other Ford/Lincoln models scattered in the oil pan before the first oil change even took place.

Meanwhile I don't hear that much about their I4's. Perhaps it's due to that engines Mazda lineage...

Considering how slow Toyota tends to move, and the fact that they prioritize QDR over all else, any engine the next Tacoma is going to have will likely be just as good as any engine they have currently or have had in the past.

And I'd much rather have the torque of a 2.4T over the NA 2.7/3.5

Yeah, but we all know people are hooning the Broncos hard. Ford people are bigger on the skinny people than Toyota folks, in general.

Who in the hell buys fleet Tacoma’s?? Serious question. F-150 is the king of fleet.

Start with electric fans up front, move the battery back near the passenger firewall, motor a bit more forward and hopefully recover another 3 inches. I am sure there is a ton of standards for keeping the front and the chin, but there is a serious amount of space up front that I don't see in some other vehicles.

Small companies or independent contractors. Not exactly “Fleet” vehicles. Most of those are also 5 lug gen 2 Tacoma’s.

Becoming very popular where I live. 20k less than a full size. Perfect for many contractors. See them more and more.

I don’t post here often, but I found the thread interesting and wanted to post my perspective. First off I’m not too involved in the forums because of all the bs bickering and I’m better than you attitudes. My main reason for being here is for the type if information carmaker1 and DJinTN provide. Things I appreciate knowing with some knowledge and evidence to back the claim.

I am really looking forward to this next gen and plan to trade my 17 in on a hybrid model (if I can get certain trims or options). The whole waiting a year or two after a new model is released seems sort of bogus to me too. The only reason people make a big deal of them on here is because everyone nit picks and goes bonkers on the forum. Hence why I stay away. I have had zero issues with my Tacoma. Could the next one give me issues? Possibly, but I also know Toyota and their dealers stand behind the products and do what’s right to fix or correct issues.

I hope this new truck isn’t a mini me version of the Tundra and has some of its own styling cues but I’m sure they will have some similar components. I can’t wait to see it sometime in 2023.

Also thank you for everyone’s input to this thread.

When are the 2023 models starting production?

on a side note I just watched a short video showing the 2023 Tacoma, Tundra and 4Runner Pro version in that new Orange. I can’t say I would choose that color personally.

The RX engines offer no power improvements and marginal improvements in fuel economy. They actually lower HP and increased torque. The hybrid system is not exciting and Tacoma won't have a powerful hybrid assistant motor.

How many truck buyers even know the difference between Unibody and Body-on-Frame these days? I wager less than 10% know the difference and the advantages in this new generation.

The maverick makes the ranger redundant. The Toyota competitor to the maverick will make the tacoma redundant.

Well hey if redundancy sells… I guess why not.

Personally I don’t think the Tacoma will look exactly like the Tundra. There certainly will be styling cues that says they’re “brothers” but not identical. The only reason it looks close now is because they’re using the tundra body for some of its testing. As far as building a smaller truck than the Tacoma I am sure Toyota is looking into it but they certainly aren’t going to skimp out on the Tacoma, it’s one of their biggest sellers. They will treat it differently than they did with the Tundra as well.
