My truck was broken into last weekend, and at the time I unfortunately had my spare key fob in the truck that had a dead battery. It was stolen and knowing they would come back I bought the club. Well last night they came back and tried to cut my steering wheel - they failed.

With that said I am now going to have to pay for a garage in my apt. Also, I disabled my key fob by holding the lock buttong and hitting unlock twice. Will that disable my spare key fob that the theif has or will that still start my car?

Disable/Register the key fob with Techstream or ask the dealer to do it. Some after market two-way scan tools can also do it but it will be pricey.

Also take a good walk around of your truck, see if the perp had put a tracker on your truck, ie Apple Airtag.

    Oh look, another mod....
Disabling the key fob just makes it not broadcast out a signal. Meaning you can't leave your key in your pocket and unlock the door by touching the door handle. It will still start your truck when they press the start/stop button.

Leaving a spare key in or around your vehicle is a seriously bad idea. You may also want to invest in a kill switch for your truck.

To add to borracho and intheplanes said, disabling one fob doesn’t disable the other and you will have to get your truck “rekeyed” or whatever the term for that is with smart keys. Reprogrammed?
I’m sorry to hear that this happened to you! What an expensive undertaking just to repair and secure your vehicle because of some dirtbag...
I’m glad the club worked for you and you still have the truck though!!

Thanks guys. I wanted to get a garage anyway, as I want to get a motorcycle soon. The club worked and I still have my truck! It's almost paid off so I'd kinda like to keep it lol

The spare key fob will still unlock and start the truck. You’ll have to get that key fob removed from your trucks “memory” somehow.

Instead of kill switch you can pull the fuel pump relay for the time being.

The dealer should be able to deactivate the code for that fob in your ECM. Happy I live in an area where people are afraid to try to steal something. I’m sure at some point that will change tho. Good luck I hope it works out with any luck they’ve moved on

Sandy Eggo is full of meth headed, no good POS aholes. They have your fob and can drive by nightly hoping you got lazy and didnt pull that relay. Go to the dealer and explain the problem. In this case it’s worth whatever they want to charge to reprogram!

Just in case they come after your truck again with the fob (even if disabled) and possibly a tow truck. I would always park in places where it would be difficult to hook up to your rig and tow away. Park in such a way that they would have to tow you from the rear. Then always turn your wheels either way to full lock so it wont track straight if they do hook up (they could still pull you out and then hook the front but its more work and more obvious). Think like a thief and make it as unattractive/difficult as possible in every way. Its ridiculous that you are going thru this and the thiefs dedication/desparation is really awful... Fuckers!

Something you can do with a drill and padlock. Remove the battery "-" clamp, drill a hole through the clamp, put on a pad lock. They can't connect the clamp, they can't drive the truck.

Also, unplug the accelerator plug, EFI relay as mentioned before. More obstacles, the better.

What is really ridiculous is the concept of a key fob. Insurance companies should just tell vehicle manufactures to go back to an actual key. My 2022 SR5 has a key (I got the 2.7L) and I would never want a fob on anything....including my lawn mower.

You can get your insurance company to cover the costs of reprogramming the ECU and maybe a replacement FOB that was stolen; all in the same claim to replace the steering wheel.

All depends if you want to use your insurance or not.

I agree. I've got a 20' SR. My fob just locks/unlocks the doors. And having to use an actual key to start the truck is just fine. I think all the higher-end fancy stuff is just more electronic gizmos to go wrong somewhere down the line. And apparently makes it easier to steal.

Go to harbor freight and buy a driveway monitor. Place the motion sensor in the interior of your Tacoma.
When the motion sensor goes off…….handle it!!

Geez, I'm surprised that no one has suggested that he remove all four tires/wheels every single night and put it up on blocks......so it doesn't get stolen.

...or you could pull the engine after you park it for the evening!
