Road salt effects on lifts

Hi TW, just wondering on the effects of the salt on various lifts here in the Northeast. Whats everyone running, and hows it holding up?

 

I had Icons/Bilsteins on my '03 for 4 years and 130,000 miles and the same on my '09 for 2 and 50,000 miles. Probably wouldn't want to try to adjust my fronts after a year or two but otherwise, both are/were fine.

 

I live out west now but grew up in NE Ohio. After working with alot of lifted vehicles I found all aftermarket stuff to corrode faster. Your best bet is for anything adjustable is to coat it in something. I liked teflon lubercant it dries. Sorry I didn't really answer your question.

 

I just got mine put on in July so it hasnt been a year so far of abuse.. but so far so good mine is still good and strong

Adjustable coilovers become non adjustable coilovers once winter is done with unless you wash them really often.

I just replaced my 1 1/2 year old Icon's with EMU. I rebuilt them once and give up the second time. $1500 in total is enough.
I don't think that is the salt only. I drive a lot on gravel road -Upstate and I think that - is a combination of small stones, sand and salt that hit the shaft and the seals.
I like the way they drive and I think , for a Tacoma ,, they are second to none but - in my eyes - they are not for north east.
Only if they could install a rubber boot behind the spring, to protect the shaft <<< . There is enough space and they should have this as an option for the guys that use these trucks past the Mall parking lot.

This kind of scares me because it will be about 1/3 or my driving time will be on dirt roads/trails, and i live in northern MI no salt is a huge factor... i'm looking at putting icons in my truck but don't want to be rebuilding them constantly... how many miles did you put on in those 1.5 years ? i also won't be driving my truck from more than one month out of the year for the next couple years so i should be good.. but yes salt ruins everything, try to find a truck older than '00 in MI that's not rusted to shit...

 

I put close to 35 k's.

 

That's not the exact same set up is it? It looks like a completely different UCA and the extra shock's reservoir is in a different spot

 

I wash the fuck out of my shit. No issues so far.

I also live here in Larryland where we hardly ever salt.

And I DD a Corolla.

I think all of these are working in my favor.

 

i usually wash my truck once a week in the winter to keep the salt and sand from fucking with my truck and while im at it i give my suspension a full on spray with teflon lube and it seems to keep everything from going to shit on me.
