What's the best camper shell for putting a dog back there? I like the super sport but the side windows only open a little :(

    Any ideas, pictures, thoughts??

Should still be in a crate strapped down in a camper. I know it's an inconvenience but that's the best way. I'm a hypocrite tho. Mine are in an open bed without any restraints. :/

I ordered a 100XR Cap from Leer for my access cab., it has the 50/50 slider windows and a front removeable or sliding window so the dog can stick his mug into the truck if he wants. Its also carpeted for extra insulation. I also mounted a 12v heater back there through an adapter via the existing plug in for the winter, he loves it.

More info on the heater and adapter!

I have a Leer 100XR. Been just fine. Ask Leer about their pet screen option ... they go over the regular side window screens, and are made of a plastic coated wire mesh designed for paws and claws and snouts poking about.

Also get a Bedrug bed mat .. it's not the entire Bedrug ... just the floor piece. It's easy to remove (you can velcro it down, but since I have a shell on, I didn't bother) and provides your pooch both cushion and grip.

The tailgate section is optional, but I found it hugely beneficial for the dog ... makes jumping in and out a much safer affair.

Sorry I dont have any links for you but the heater has a cigarette lighter plug and runs on 12v, just look for 12v automotive heaters and you will find one easy 20-30$. As for the adapter , I found one super cheap on Amazon, it just plugs into your bed plug and converts the existing current to 12 volt. Just look under (12v converter) and you will find it. Super cheap, like $4.

Dogs ride in the cab, why would you want your best friend in the back of the truck?

I agree...Mine rides shotgun unless he's tired and wants to lay across the backseat, or if someone else is riding shotgun.

Yeah, mine sits up with me too! But I would like a cap for when his buddies come along too. All my friends have dogs.

I have an ARE MX and it works great. I have a vented windoor on one side, and the vented slider on the other. Plus with the window near the cab he's got all sorts of crossflow. Threw a regular Tacoma bed mat down and he just hangs. I'll usually put his bed back there on longer trips.

I have 3 large dogs. Not all three can fit in my DC without making it hazardous for me and everyone near. I hate nothing more than seeing a dog sprawled on a driver's lap. May as well be dui.

I agree...although I don't have to worry about that. My 80lb Golden Retriever wouldn't fit in the seat with me anyways. He barely fits in the passenger seat. (His front legs are on the floor usually with his butt in the seat).

Most of the time he sits in the backseat right behind me (front legs on the floor) with his nose wedged between the seat and the B-pillar.
