And to that Im going to say, No. If Toyota felt it safe, then they would have listed the TWR as such. Period. Why wouldnt they? Hell, THey would have the highest TWR of any 4 cyl. out there. But, alas, they dont. End of story.

theoretically with the same brakes as a tow equiped tacoma and all the same equipment it would be safe. Your truck will not last long with that kind of load on it, you will definatelly have problems getting going and getting up hills. But

^this^ But it could be done. You won't be going very fast and you won't have any fun doing it. Fact is the 4 cyl just doesn't have the grunt to pull 6500 lbs at highway speeds or in any sort of terrain.

It is a John Deere Round Bailer, the truck is only used to move it off road around the farm. 4L is used to save the clutch, I would NEVER attempt to move it any real distance or on a road. I am not going to put that much strain on the truck. I know what strain the boat puts on it during extended tows and it is almost half the weight.

The boat that is pulled nearly every weekend that has total weight around 2800-3000 lbs (depending on fuel), while it goes no where in a hurry and you can tell it is there the truck pulls it fine. Even on a steep boat ramp it will get it out of the water in 2H but it is struggling.

Given their lower frontal area than a box trailer, they are not the worst things to tow. A Typical 18' runabout is going to have less drag (all things being equal) than a car hauler, or 20' box trailer. And if the boat is uncovered, then the air going over, is going to form smal vorticies behind the windshield, much like the open bed of a truck does, and will still be more aerodynamic.

    I hope I didn't fuel the fire. It's still a bad idea!

Not fueling the fire at all. THe last thing I would want to see, is a new guy stumble upon this site, and see dhk saying its fine to tow something over the TWR, and for them to try it, and get hurt, or someone else hurt.

Aerodynamics are irrelevant on a boat ramp.

OP, congrats. You've done nothing wrong and youve exposed several hack, armchair, wannabe, 2+1=5.5 engineers."Im only grateful i didnt get quoted here. Some of them made ?Chris  maaaaaddder than ive ever seen. Whenever i see a tacoma tow now, im gonna be scared from some of what i read.

Once again , fail-tards seem to think genious is ignoring the manufacturers safe decision for towing .... and "proving" it'll do a whole lot more. Theres so many scenarios that it would be foolish to even trust one person who towed more , because he falsely believes an add a leaf a tow hitch or a gear ratio change is all you need to tow more. Those items and more only make towing the standard limit safer , easier, more reliable,or more stable...on n on. No need to overthink it , Toyota done that for us.
