    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!

Last evening was gorgeous - crewed another balloon flight. Our chief pilot hit 1000 flight hours in a balloon - and even managed to land at our house for the second time in 8 days. Big celebration afterwards. I'll post some pics this evening when we get the drone shots.

Off to play in the college's golf tournament later this morning - actually playing 3 times this week. Retirement is tough.

Made it back from the city very uneventful. Spent the night wandering North Beach. Beautiful weather and friends.

I also pumped gas in High School 65 and 66. On the east coast gas was 25 cents a gallon. You can complain about gas prices but they will go low but probably not below $3.50 a gallon. One of the main reasons is the Fracking boom in 2005. A lot of investors lost a lot of money. No matter what part of the process of getting the oil out of the ground and to the gas pump, these companies are there to make a profit. I doubt that you will ever see a huge surplus of petroleum products in inventory again. The pandemic caught the companies unprepared, they had too much product in the pipeline and the demand dropped down to almost nothing. I cannot complain too much as I fill up once every 2 months.

    Have a great day everyone.

Busy weekend. In addition to blowing up the transmission on my wife's Honda CR-V, I'm installing the battery and solar for off-grid camping.

I got my brackets to make up and measure, but something isn't right.

I checked twice and kept wondering what the heck was going on. The cap has a taper to it! Spacing gets narrower towards the back. Damn it. I just hadn't realized it, but to do it ideally means each pair of brackets gets a mounting hole closer to the panel. Sheesh.

I left "wings" long to allow a future awning but needed to mill that extra inch off the rear panel mounts—two 100W panels on the cap's roof. The challenge is that I like transporting panels on the top, but in camp, it is best to have them detachable so you can park in the shade and have them sitting 20 ft away in the sunshine. Yep, reposition every two hours for best charging. Fridge (1 Amp per hour for 24 hours) 24Ah, CPAP, LED lighting, yadda. So two hours of full sunshine is fine to recharge the battery.

Tailgate is my workbench, hence aluminum chips everywhere (I use small 8mm thread transfer punches to mark locations of the holes). Things are worth their weight in gold but make life easy by getting holes dead center—8 mm studs and "P" drill about 8.20 mm for clearance.

Been to all those towns. My wife grew up in Lancaster county and we visit there every year or two. Big tourist thing is to get your pic taken in front of the town of Intercourse sign and of course sending Intercourse post cards. Lancaster county is truly beautiful. Seeing the Amish plowing their fields with horse and old time plow still blows my mind.
