As much as I hate to say it, but sometime its worth it to just pay someone to do it

Link mounts back on. Just tac’d em. Not in the mood to weld today.

Axle looks pretty good. Don’t love the truss but whatever. I’m stuck w it now.

If I would have known how nice the cast iron housing would weld I would have never used it.

This is my mindset with gearing. Could I do it? Yes, but it'd take me 10 times too long and probably end up costing me just as much as not dealing with the headache. ECGS will be building my clamshell and third member when I go to regear.

Yep. That's my motto too. Can I do it, definitely. Should I, that's the next question I ask. I just hate to pay all this money for master bearing kit with ring & pinion to blow it up within 10 miles from home.

I'm all for learning new skills, but if I'm gonna make myself absolutely miserable for a small savings, then I say fuck it and work a little OT.

Same as most of us that had ECGS do their diffs. I priced out the locker, gears, bearing kit. Then got a quote from ECGS to build them. Minus my cores they charged me less the $400 to build both diffs. This was about 5 years ago now.

Armed with that I figured it would take me at least 8 hours to do both diffs. Was it worth saving $400 for a day that I could be wheeling instead of wrenching? Probably not. Am I so good at setting up a diff that I think it would be perfect? Probably not. Does ECGS also offer a 5 year warranty on those diffs? Yep.

That 5 years warranty was the deciding factor. Roughly $80 a year for diff insurance. The way I wheel that was a no brainer.

Now if only my bank account could support projects like that and I had the time to do it, maybe I'd be more inclined to DIY things. If I think I can tackle it I do. Gears are just one of those things. Everything else so far I've DIY'd including JD Fab SUA

I mean, if I get a mile down the road and they start whining, I will be pretty bummed.

But, if they don’t and work well and lasts I will be happy. Besides, I’m waiting for parts so I had the time. Been doing all my motor stuff too. I’m a mechanic, not a fabricator. I enjoy that aspect for the most part.

Don’t get me wrong, if I had 8-10k to blow on each I would have just got completes. But, I don’t.

We're not trying to knock you for it. Just my experience is I got a short fuse most of the time when it comes to things not working the way they're supposed to because I'm not skilled enough to notice the issues beforehand. Plus I used to not have a second vehicle so if things ended up taking longer than expected I'd have to take days off work to finish up.

Not gonna lie, if I messed up all my shims like that'd I'd have thrown something heavy across the shop.

About time you show that thing off a little!

I just paid for the atlas which sucked and I still have $1500 for harness and 1000 for digital dash, 600 for intake so I’m pinching every penny big time!

Na, I know. It just gets expensive as fuck and I’m like, I can do the gearing. Wish I coulda had someone do the steering gear. That took forever and sucked!

and I still have to buy $50 seatbelts! Fuck!

I would not trust a shop who charges less than 800 per diff. If they mess it up I’m gonna be more pissed than if I do.

the 14 bolt rear took me about 4 hours to do. The ford front took like 20 hours cause I basically had to do it 2x.
