    Hey guys-

What's your favorite motor oil these days? These engines have a timing chain, that makes them hard on oil, at least that's what I've heard.

Right now I'm running a load of Amsoil 5W-30 ASL, and my 4 banger seems to like it. But I might switch if I could find a cheaper oil that would work just as well.

I don't try to get more than 5 or 6 k before I change it. I know others go much longer, but I get too antzy and change it out.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 now. The 1st 80,000 miles I used regular oil.

Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-30, Aamsoil is a bit better, but honestly just changing the oil on time with any synthetic is going to keep the motor going for a long long time.

I've heard that Toyota back spec'd some of our engines to run 5W -20.

How do I find out if mine is one of them? I've got an 06 2.7.

My thoughts are it was done mostly for colder climates, right?

Just curious have you compared the 5w to the 0w in your tacoma?

Previous owner used dino every 3k. Switching over this weekend to Amsoil 100% Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil with 71k on the clock.

I haven't.I just went with the new Amsoil 0w30 at 1000 or so miles.
I did use Amsoil 5w30 in my other vehicles but when Amsoil came out with the 0W30,I switched and don't feel any difference.

Mobil 1 Sytec 5w30 is all my truck has ever seen. Also my gn and my new challenger see the same oil along with all the wifes vw's. My gn always ran great and never puffed smoke when i sold it. Mobil 1 FTW.
