its not a matter of trust it’s a matter of risk. For example, I trust my wife to not jam another dude or make a killer supper, I just don’t want to risk my vehicle’s life with someone else behind the wheel. Sorry to hear about the truck OP, glad everyone is ok and you got another Tacoma.

If you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for your truck? I know the prices are insane right now.

The times my wife drives my Tacoma or Jeep, she usually gets flirted with. Guys usually start with compliments on the vehicles to break the ice. I told her only get numbers from guys that own landscaping or home remodeling/construction businesses:anonymous:

OP, I don't initially see damage enough to prevent a buy back from the insurance and repair.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.

Sounds like it ended up ok. Did you pull your kayak rack off the prerunner before they got it?

If you aren't willing to take that risk, particularly with your spouse, then you are missing out in life. "Trust" or "Risk", is no different in this situation.

Glad it worked out OP. My wife drives my truck all the time now. More than me. I told her - I’m thankful her & the kid are in a safe truck!

Sorry for this loss @Dreyfus ! Only could have been worse if people were seriously injured I suppose.

Some people have to take what they can get, you know!!

I trust my wife. We have similar driving records (no collisions). But, she doesn't want to drive a manual so it's moot. :D

I’m not married, this was just a fictional tale here to prove an example.

$13,300, which was more than I should have paid because the AC compressor was shot. We really wanted a first gen, though.

Amica gave me $16,100 for my totaled ‘08, so we’re about even. You’re right, prices are insane. I’ve seen 2004 Tacomas listed in NC and VA for $28k and even $31k.

Can confirm, have done this before.

Cute girls with cool trucks, what's not to like?

Oh, yes! Now I have to figure out how to mount them on the ‘04 as they use the bed rails that the first gen trucks don’t have.

Yeah, but I’d have a salvaged title with all of the insurance and sale hassles that go with that, to say nothing of the time to repair. The driver’s door wouldn’t open after the accident, so it was more than the first 2’ of the truck that needed repairing.

We wanted the slightly smaller first gen 4x4 we ended up with anyway. But, still sad to see it go.

Trust in a relationship is one thing, having confidence is somone's ability is another.

I'll let my grown & married sons drive it, but not my wife. During our 40 years of marriage she managed to wreck 2 of my trucks. She is pure hell on wheels (speeding tickets) and just plain hard on vehicles. Most of the time when you get in her car you can't see the passenger side floorboard from all her stuff. Sorry, but there's no way she's driving my rig and she knows it.

@Dreyfus, glad no one was hurt and it all worked out for you and the other party.
