You can still get a 6-speed TRD Off-Road?!?! Still not worth $70K in my opinion; A Tacoma is not supposed to be a rich person's truck...

the car market is different than it was 3 years ago - do you understand the laws of supply and demand?
I got $6000 over what I owed on my lease on a 1 1/2 year old vehicle and got a new TACOMA for "sticker" + $1000 in dealer extras(key, tire/wheel, dent insurance ect) So who won on that deal? I am ok with that deal in todays world !!!!!

Stapp is right down the road from me. I laugh every time one of their “custom shop” Tacomas gets posted online. They had a $65K SR5 listed the other day.

It sounds like you are not familiar with the history of US automobile dealerships.

I'm plenty familiar with the history of stealerships, but it seems like this goes above and beyond; Dodge actually threatened to not allow dealers to have Hellcats and Demons if they marked up the price. It used to be that if one dealer was being an asshole about the price, you went to the next dealer; Even in today's market, some dealers are remarkably less dickish than others. Thompson in Doylestown charges sticker, but I've never seen them charge above sticker. As for the worst offender among Toyota dealers I've been to recently, it's a tossup between Peruzzi in Hatfield and Sloane in Glenside. Fred Beans has been notoriously stubborn about negotiations for as long as anybody can remember, and only because I worked at their Doylestown, Pennsylvania detail shop was I able to get my dad a deal on a certified preowned 2018 GMC Yukon SLT.

I also blame impatient consumers being stupid enough to pay $30K for a used Corolla for the insane prices!

If you think Tacomas are bad, for almost a year I’ve been looking to buy a couple of decent, used Seadoo or Waverunner PWC’s.
Around here, people are routinely asking for way more than they cost new 10years ago.....and people are still forking over the $$$$ for them.....
    Total sellers market.

Bought my first Tacoma from that dealer in '02 before they were Fred Beans. It was certified used, but hadn't been through the checklist that they apparently did, and it had been in an accident that they didn't disclose. I guess a change in ownership didn't change how they do business.

Some dealers aren't smart enough to realize that being honest can result in more money; Hail damage is a perfect exmaple. In 2014, my cousin's husband bought a 2011 Subaru Impreza from a dealership in Reading, Pennsylvania that been damaged in a hailstorm. I forget how many miles were on the car, but there was nothing wrong with it mechanically, and he paid like $11,000 for it and never bothered to fix the hail damage. It had well over 100K miles on it when he sold it and bought a 2016 Jeep Cherokee in 2018; Luckily, the Jeep has the 3.6L Pentastar instead of the shitty Fiat turbo 4-banger, but I still give him grief for buying a Jeep instead of a Toyota... :D

I would totally buy a deeply discounted late model vehicle with hail damage!

Last December, some guy walked up to me in a Wawa parking lot and asked if my Tacoma was for sale. I told him it was not. He asked that if I had to sell it, what I would sell it for. I told him that the current fair market value was about $12K. He about shit his pants, and said he thought that such a truck was worth about five grand, and it took a lot of effort for me to stifle my laughter; He was with his friend who had an Infiniti G35, but apparently didn't have a car himself, and he said that he was basically broke and there were no decent used vehicles for sale that he could afford...

I feel his pain, but I would never sell my Tacoma!

Went to the dealer the other day for my headliner replacement. Almost zero stock on everything. Didn't even see any trucks. The two vehicles they had up front had stickers on them with market adjustment of $9000 - $10000 added on to the msrp. When will this end ? I actually don't see it ending for a long time.

Everywhere you look, people are trying to get the most they can for the sale of their car/truck.
The same people are mad when they see market price adjusted vehicles for sale.
I bought a 21 Subaru STI for 38k a year ago. I traded that car to a dealership for my 22 Tacoma and they gave me 44k! I paid sticker for the truck. I already have over 6k equity in the Taco and I could sell it today for more again.
Dealerships don't have inventory, prices are high, and people are paying elevated prices.
Microchip shortages played their roll too.
Off subject, seen home prices lately?? Elevated!
The economy is definitely set to crash by next year.

Gas prices are definitely going to cool the truck and non hybrid SUV market. To the point of being able to get 2-3K off MSRP is to be seen. But the psychology of paying 2-5K over for a gas hog when prices are $6-7/gal is going to sideline a lot of buyers.
