100% agree, this could get really ugly. renters have certain rights and I'm pretty sure shutting off water is crossing a line

Don't even have to be renters.
Household members have rights after owner moves out.

He rents with me equally. He can turn them on himself if he wants. He pays $0 to live there so it should be easy for him.

No. I don’t own a home and likely will never be able to afford one. He just has his name on a lease next to mine.

Can you get the landlord to remove your name from it? I'd want to be as far from that as possible

Have you paid your part of rent to tthe landlord through the leasing ending period and given 30 days written notice to landlord and room mate?

I tried my best. The landlord refused to remove him. Also spoke with this child in person and he just mocked and laughed at me.

He used some generic ezlandlordforms thing. My issue is the landlord is being disagreeable with any of my efforts to resolve this. He ignored the other roommate and I requesting we evict this kid.

I’m caught up. Just still on the hook for the security deposit at the final move out walkthrough. Also I’ll be paying for a massive final utility bill since that kid won’t be paying me. He keeps the AC down at 73 and my electric bill went up to $190 from the normal $90-$100.

    Yeah, I understand.
I'm not an attorney licensed in Texas to give advice or address leasing agreements.
    I will say this.
    Consult with one.
    You'll thank yourself later.

Yeah. I’m going to call the landlord today and see if he’ll just take on utilities the day I shut them off. Since he likes this kid enough to prevent us from evicting him.

I wouldn't give him the option, I would just tell him, in writing, the utilities that are in your name, are no longer connected since fuck boi is refusing to pay.

I'm also not an attorney and don't have legitimate advice to give. I'm just a petty sumbish that understands exactly how you feel

I just don’t know what to do. Nothing can force this kid to pay me for utilities he uses. So the landlord should have some more sway in getting utility money since the kid has signed a lease with him.

I’m still a few weeks out. If I can come to an agreement where the landlord switches utilities over to himself I should be clear to shut them off so I’m not on the hook for some monster $400 total bill.

If he says no I guess I’m just screwed.
