Can the drive shaft be removed from the differential without removing the drive shaft from the hub by just removing the hub bolts and the tie rod end and moving the hub to the side?

You can’t get to the hub bolts unless you remove the rotor.

While I’m not positive, I think you can remove the lower ball joint bolts, tie rod, and remove the bolts holding the brake line in place. (Don’t disconnect the brake line from the caliper.) In this case you are leaving the hub bolted to the spindle.
You can even leave the caliper and rotor bolted on.

Then pop the axle loose and pull out on the bottom of the spindle. Basically, you are leaving everything hanging from the UCA.

I personally just removed the axle, caliper, and rotor just to have more room to work. Plus it was just easier for me since I was doing it by myself.

I’m curious why OP wants to leave the axle in the hub?

If you’re going to leave the axle in the hub. I’d leave it all in the spindle.

I guess that was the point to my post above.

    Good luck OP:thumbsup:

I couldn’t break the tie rod end loose. Ended up breaking the 2 bolts below the ball joint. Moved stuff forward vs moving it backward

Like this? Not a great pic since it only shows one little area. It’s been almost 2 years too. I think at that point, the LCA side hub bolts were removed and the hus was supported by a bucket. The sway bar was also disconnected. You can swing the hub out enough for the cv to pop out. Be careful since you can separate the inside part of the cv as well.

Thanks for the reply, I meant the lower ball joint bolts but had a brain fart moment.
