This kritter showed up this morning meowing away and trying to come in and play with Igloo and Peppa. Guess his/her momma took a walk for a while. I fed the li'l one at least 3X and gave him/her water but I scared it every time I looked at it. Tonight I don't hear or see him/her, hopefully he/she met momma and is sleeping comfortably with her.

I’m going to start a debate here. Some of you may remember an old tv show calle Twilight Zone? There was an episode where aliens convinced humans to go to their planet, promising all the comforts of home, all they could eat, no wars, no crime, a great life. People jumped on the offer, and found themselves on display to the alien world, behind glass looking out. They were the inhabitants of an alien zoo.
THAT is an indoor cat’s life. Looking out a window on a world forbidden to enter. No grasshoppers, no birds to stalk, no lizards to bring home. No fresh air, no green grass, no dirt to roll in.
I know, there are dangers out there for cats. And I know that in some areas, displaced predators present a greater danger, but most areas don’t have extreme dangers like that, where cats live a full happy long life. I’ll get off my soap box now with one last thought:
If you love it, set it free.

Your not going to like this but out door cats kill a lot of wildlife for nothing ,nesting birds etc not just mice in Australia they are killing the cats cause there are killing every thing sorry don’t want to start a big debate here but facts are facts , I am not going to reply any more on this topic just my option, hope all is as you desire ,out door domestic cats are not natural to the environment

you make a valid point. Feral cats certainly are a problem, and not to be protected. The point I make is the imprisonment of pets, whether indoor cats, or dogs without a dog run, it’s not right to deny them the freedoms and joys of the great outdoors.

Imprisonment is a point of view and it also is dependent on how much attention you give them, opportunity to watch the outside world through protective screens ( or catios ), supervised tome outside ( walks on leashes), etc. Also remember, many rescued cats wouldn't be alive without us and some wouldn't know the first thing about surviving outdoors with predators. Farm cats are constantly killed by asshats driving too fast on gravel roads... There are two sides of the coin here.

All of our cats have been indoor only ( Bella might start getting some leash time for off-roading day trips ) and thus far, all of them are very affectionate with us, love guests ( mostly ), and didn't desire to go outside. I will admit though, I want to turn our back deck into a giant catio the people are allowed to enter.

    I agree with you.

Growing up our cats were outdoor cats. There were issues but city life was great as they were the top of the food chain.

Now I live in a mountainous area where they aren't even in the top 5. Cats don't last too long out here.

We let him out in the backyard so he can enjoy the hunt and soak up some sun, unescorted

    He doesn't wander far.

We also got him as a rescue at age 2 were he was an indoor cat that was abandoned outside

    Edit.

My wife has never owned a cat and doesn't think they can survive outside...lol
