I repaired my old shitty headrests today...

The foam in my headrests were blown out, the cross bar was riding at the top of the cloth/vinyl cover. So I figured, may as well take them apart and see if I can fix them...Too cheap to buy replacements.

The cover is retained by a two-piece plastic gimping thing that snaps together. Easy to remove this and then squish the foam to remove the cover all together.

Then I could see how the foam was damaged and move the bar back inside and prepare the foam for bonding.

I laid out a plastic trash bag and donned some latex gloves in preparation to glue it back together.

I used 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive because that’s what we had at work, opened up the tear and sprayed liberally. Allow to dry and become tacky then press the pieces together, and replace any pieces that have become detached.

Then I cut the plastic bag so it would fit around the foam and ease reassembly of the covers.

    Worked like a champ!

Once covers are on, simply reattach the gimping and snap in place.

Not exactly good as new, but way better than they were this morning. And the price was right!

    Hope this helps someone.

Truck had a rough time while we were chasing bears last month. Busted the tailgate handle, and murdered my grill and an AC line turning around on a dead end 2 track, lost a marker light on a trip to Idaho.

Changed the ac line and got the cold air blowing again yesterday, waiting on new headlights before change everything on the front end.

also blew one of my rear icons, gotta figure something out to deal with that soon.

Also working on repairing my AC. Replacing the condenser, drier and now the line between those two because I stripped the nut connecting them :(

This little brain spike epoxied to the roof was doing the job but it failed me two times too many.

The way these head rests all end up with pushing through the foam drives me nuts. I genuinely believe it could cause serious problems in a back end collision

Where did you find that piece? I've searched a couple times on eBay looking for them and it seems like they all have sunroof controls.

Anyone have any experience with installing UCA double shear on a 4cyl?
The TC ones apparently don't fit the 4cyl due to a different hump in the frame but could maybe be ground down to fit?
Not sure about the Solo motorsports ones as they don't mention anything about the 4cyl.

i couldn’t find it either but I used 3m panel bond (the stuff car manufacturers uses to bond metal panels together instead of welding) trust me guys I would have to cut the roof to get it off!

The bolt ended up breaking out of the plastic housing when I tried to remove it so that's just going to stay up there forever. No sense in possibly denting the roof trying to get it off.
When I first stuck it up there the surface was too smooth and that's why the 5 min Epoxy didn't work. Once I took the time to scuff the mating surfaces it stayed in place

Bedlined my flatbed! Built the flatbed myself after rolling my truck and cab swapping it. It took an entire year of nonstop work but im finally proud of it again. I mean, i was always proud but this makes it a lot easier to be proud.

Glad to hear. That's what I ended up ordering as they seemed they should fit better than TC considering they're not pre-bent pieces

I've got a few more details on the 1st page of my build thread "Little Red Creeper"

The sunglass holder /map light comes from a 99-02 4runner

When I first did the install I didn't even know there was a mounting bracket available so I just glued a stud to the roof and made it work
    IMG_20220419_180538.jpg
I've heard these brackets are hard to find but I don't think that should stop anyone from installing it.
The lights are so much better than the stock tacoma
