Line Out Converter

I am looking for one and have no idea which one is good. Anyone have a recommendation?

 

I use a Kicker LOC in my Tundra. Works fine for me with my 8".

 

What are you doing with it?

 

Right now I want to use it for an amp to pushing the rear door speaker. They are kicker 2 way. I want to have the ability to add a woofer if I want later on

So basically use the rear channel speakers into the converter which will give me either 1 or 2 outputs for 1 huge 4 channel or 2 smaller amps

 

My vote goes to the AudioControl LC6i. 6 channel, but obviously you would use just 4

 

Dont amp the rear speakers, its a waste of money from a sound quality standpoint.

But you can get a audiocontrol lc2i, it will provide you will a pair of full range outputs and a pair for a subwoofer. if you want to run a 4 channel amp and a subwoofer amp a lc6i will give you front, rear and subwoofer output.

 

I have kicker 2 way in rear doors so sound should be good. I saw the LCI 6 did not have Accu boost for the base, so I think I am getting the 7 which does. Also an alpine a70f . Bridge the rear doors for now until I figure out my woofer situation

 

No I mean it doesnt matter what speakers you have in the rear, amping them will make them louder, but will also cause directional interference in the sound stage.

In a audio system, you want it to sound like the band is playing on a stage in front of you. If there is a large amount of sound coming from the rear it will upset that and create a poor experience. To add to that that way the tacoma rear door speakers are set, only the passenger speaker as a clear line to your ears, so you will hear more volume from the right side of the truck than the left.

If you want to amp the rear speakers, go ahead, but its not going to sound good.

 

Amp the front then a better choice.

 

Yep, amp the front and add a sub if you need more bass.

 

Could I swap front and rear channels? This way the rear get the power the front usually have from the head unit, or does the front and rear get a different signal as well as strength?

 

Front and rear get the same signal, but different power levels. If you connect any amp to get its signal from the rear speakers, its not going to work very well. So if you swap front to rear your going to need to make sure your signal for the amp is coming from the front (now the rear). You will of bypassed the fader at this point and just made a 2 channel system that plays on 4 speakers. If you ever have people in the back that dont want music, they have no choice anymore. Same goes for upfront, I often mute my front speakers so my kids can listen to what they want and I dont have to.

But to give you a idea of how it will sound, fade all the way to the rear, then one click to the front. Then turn it up.

 

I got ya. Haven’t wired a stereo since the first Sony CD player came out. Back to the drawing board.

With the front doors running 3 way and the dash has 2 3/4 speakers ( not the tweeter switch) what would you do with the 2 way 6.5 inch in the rear doors? Thanks

 

Just leave them on radio power, or if you get a 4 channel amp, hook them up to that and leave them.

 

I’m ordering the Alpine x-a70f. I will just wire all 4 channels to it. It say is can do 120 x 4 at 4 ohms or 175 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms. Should I run at 4 or bridge to 2?

 

If your just going to power your interior speakers, bridging it is way too much power.

Run 2 channels to your front, then 2 channels to either the rear speakers or bridged to a subwoofer. I would personally would run it 4 channel to each door speaker, then if you end up wanted to add a sub, just disconnect the rear speakers and bridge it to the sub, hooking the rear speakers back to the headunit.

 

Thanks for all your help. Going to go with that plan. Run the 4 channel at 4 and not bridge, I may just get a powered sub down the road to make it easy.

 

No. Don’t use the factory radio rear output.

So I am sooo close to having a working system. I cannot figure out the speakers.

I have looked and looked. I cannot find a wiring diagram that is complete to help with my radio. I saw the other SR5 thread but I still cannot follow. I have the power, ground, remote in and out handled.

I think I have the rear, fronts are killing me. How do I know which are negative and which are positive? I re-wired all the speakers (kickers) 16 gauge. The fronts are run parallel. I had sound from all at one point, but as I finished up it did not stay on. It is going to LC7i.

I used the red as my remote, and also along with the white it pushes my right rear speaker. The yellow and black is my left rear. I thought the other 2 were the front but it is not working that way.

To help all Gen 3 non-JBL I scored this from crutchfield.

I am still having problems, so it may be in my speaker wiring to right front. My amp also keeps overheating, not sure why. Gains are turned down.
