You need to stop being such a personal slave driver to be able to work less though :luvya:

But seriously, that's really awesome! If nothing else it should make you feel good about your competency.. although to me welding 40hrs a week of only the same thing sounds mind numbing. Your current place you at least get more variety though right?

They didn't mention dental, but medical is through Kaiser.

Shifts are morning to afternoon, afternoon to evening, or evening to morning (graveyard).

You stay on your shift. They don't want people having to change as that effects productivity unless of course if they requested it.

I told them I would inquire if the shift available seems convenient.

Previous jobs burned me out I don't want to work 15hr days anymore. I value off time way more.

Yeah see my current job allows me to do much more like cut, press, bend, weld, etc as everything is done in-house with the exception of laser-cut table tops that we order.

Production welding sucks. There little to no variety, just the same monotonous part over and over again. Id try to find a smaller job shop.

I wish my place had plants nationwide. You'd like it. Every job is different.

I don't know what the scene looks like where you're at, but contracting or rigging out a truck or trailer, lets you choose jobs or how much you work. The contractors I worked with made 150-200 an hour, but that was 15 years ago. I worked with these guys manufacturing as the only single-hand/helper. Outside of working 3 years manufacturing until they shut us down, the contractors would say; they were lucky to have a job everyday. Single-hands don't have to worry much about insurance, taxes, and other things it takes to run a business. I've had other welding friends contracted and worked from home, building everything from smokers to oilfield equipment. It worked out good, because they were raising a family. Another welder I graduated with started a metal art company. Come up with a product, and make your own business out of it. Good Luck

I haven't done any real production welding, though I can agree that it would suck 100%.

I work in a small enough shop that allows me to do anything and everything I wouldn't normally do in another shop fortunately.

I guess the only real thing I was looking forward to was the fact that apparently people are able to move into different positions based on knowledge that they have in a certain field or what have you. Let's say a welder wants to move up and do something different, they could get into quality control or something else in part of the fabrication process.

Or, it's the typical BS that they try to sell you on.

    Sure smells like it.

Or you probably need to stay for 10 years before they move you up.

    I get that.

The guys know my situation much more in depth though but I'll sum it up -

I've always wanted to get into welding; fabrication specifically.

I only started welding (and becoming a welder IE getting paid to weld as my day job) just months ago in Dec of last year. Have no welding experience whatsoever before that.

I expect needing many years of experience under my belt before I can really come up with anything that'll mean 'working for myself'.

I guess I was just trying to gauge to see where I stood if I applied with someoneone much larger than where I work.

Forgot to mention I'm already 3G certified with MIG, and wanted to try for 3 or 4F with stick.

Both instructors (one morning, and one afternoon/evening) even said to apply to work as an AID at my school. Could be a nice little extra cash gig.
