@rnish is technically correct...if you removed the shock, the truck would collapse on itself..thus they are "coilovers" and not struts...but most people NOT mechanically inclined..would call them struts..

The pre-assembled struts or "quick struts" are not really a problem. They will work just fine and for the most part will provide a softer or plusher ride - on the street. As others (and myself) have mentioned, 3rd gen take offs can be found at very reasonable prices. If you find some, you need to make sure they are complete with the top hats. Or you'll be spending more money on those.

Also, as others have mentioned Tacoma struts have color dots. I myself am not sure what they mean. Some say the red and green go on the drivers side. That maybe true on some, while not on others. When I put some 3rd gen take offs on my truck I followed what the service manual said. And guess what? The red and green did not go on the drivers side.

Here is what I went by.

This will ensure your springs are correctly "clocked." I'm sure your mechanic will understand and know.

You could also opt for a spacer on the DS to bring it up 2". That subject I know very little on since I've never been interested in doing.

red green is drivers, red blue is passenger, is how I did mine, and no taco lean..and yeah what @BlkDakDave said, they need to be clocked correctly

About $100 to $125 over priced. Otherwise, everything you need is there.

if you ask a toyota dealer...the part numbers are the same and they will tell you they will work on either side of a 3rd gen...

I bought mine out of the D-FW area in 2019 (off a 2019) for $175. Hell, maybe you're right. Gas was what, $1.70 a gallon back then. I guess I'm living in the past and wishing fuel was affordable. MAGA - make gas affordable again!

The guy is willing to sell me the front pair for 200 dollars. I had the rear recently changed the mechanic put a "duralast" I think on the rear. It should still be able to be returned since this was done last week. Do you think I should get the rear shocks too since it's just 100 dollars more?

Welcome. The set on FB seem cherry! Have you looked on CL for any? Just stay with a set that is fairly new with low miles.

BTW - with a set of 3rd gen take offs, you could get as much as a 2" lift on the front. Also, either way get a wheel alignment.

if you can get the rears also..I would. Why not keep them a matching set as far as mileage! and again @BlkDakDave makes another good point. Get an alignment too

That set from FB has the rear shocks. If you get the 3rd gen take offs, change everything.

How much does a wheel alignment cost. I can't find that part. Could you send me a link?

Its a process to align your front wheels. Caster and Camber, not a part but a service any tire shop can do. Your mechanic may also be able to do it, when they put new fronts on they should have done one...

Wheel alignment cost? I think Firestone or Pep Boys will do a lifetime for around $200??? That service often goes on sale at various places. My local Toyota dealership had a $49.00 "internet special" when I changed mine out. Your mechanic should be able to "steer" you in the right direction for that.
