    Re: poll

    Never fired, only quit.

First job, quit to go back to school

Second job, had reduced hours and was on unemployment so I started looking elsewhere.

    Third job, haven't quit yet.

    YET.

    Re: Poll
Never fired, but shortest job duration was 3.5 hours. While being introduced to internal processes… Met an old friend and had a 5 minute conversation. He suddenly said “I gotta go” and left. I assumed he just had other things to do. Was told by another employee that the boss was making scowl faces and “they don’t like us to socialize on the clock”. I got up and let her know this wasn’t the place for me. Shame too, I was requested as a temporary fill for short staff and specialty knowledge. I think I know why.

You guys see the story about the new Caterpillar employee tripping and falling into the 2600 degree crucible?

Poor guy had been on the job 5 days. The story said only half of him entered the molten mix. I'm guessing the top half?

    Re: poll,
I got fired one time. Cause I didn’t come in on a Sunday which was my normal day off. Store policy was everyone had to show up first snow storm of the year to handle the rush of people getting snow tires put on (I was a tire changer). Surprisingly not a ton of people rush out in 10” of snow to get tires put on, it’s the day or two after. Anyways I was working a second job cause the 1st one sucked. I came in Monday and the boss fired me, even though my dad (who worked there also) called on the snow day, and my boss told him they were dead, they didn’t need any help. So I got canned, and then once I pleaded my case to unemployment they gave it to me and said the employer was out of bounds. Icing on the cake was my boss got fired for having one of the techs work on his truck and not pay the company for his time.

Did my good deed of the day. Stopped and lent my floor Jack to a poor guy on the side of the road with a blowout. And my tire iron because his was tiny and you couldn't hardly break the lug nuts loose with it.

I do this occasionally when I see folks out of their league, especially in crappy weather. Floorjack beats scissorjack and spinner wrench beats that shady multi-tool that does none of them well. Only one I had to defer was a dodge that had aluminum capped steel nuts. She had already messed them up and I couldn’t get ahold of them even with the six sided wrench. The outer shell just slipped like a stripped nut. If I had a pipe wrench, I may have been able to, but I deferred to a tow truck.

Never been fired. Got “layed off” due to being slow and in the meantime found a better job and left. Quit that one not too long after I started. The 16-18 hour days doing road construction were pretty brutal and being gone all week was pretty hard. Then worked at an auto parts store. That was fun but wasn’t going anywhere so I left to go work at the machine shop. That was 11 years ago. Left the machine shop back in early February due to some issues that arose. Wasn’t worth my time to stick around and deal with it. Been happy with the new job so we will see where it leads to.
