Having a TDI is a double edged sword right now... gets 35-40MPG, but minimum of $1 more per gallon... around here it's more like $1.30 more

 

True.. I don't know if the 1.9 TDI can handle the conversion but the older VW 1.6 diesel would run off veggie oil. Then again restaurants won't just give it away anymore

 

We have an OM617 5-cyl Merc diesel to put in my buddy's 91 pickup and honestly the swap is looking less likely every day. It's just not worth it over the 22RE right now

 

Especially since the 22re will take a propane conversion so easily

Although I've always wanted to put one of those OM617 into something

 

I love the 617, awesome engine, and we have a really nice complete one. I don't know what we are going to do with it now... maybe we'll just complete the swap, they want to make the truck and overlander and that would go a long way to making it more reliable.

 

I bet our gas prices break $5/gal today for reg…

This right here is what pisses me off about owning an all Japanese fleet of vehicles. The parts houses treat them like some niche oddity and never have any parts for them, even metric size hoses and fittings. Drives me insane!!

I liked the part he quoted haha, That it's a subtle plot to reduce the lifespan of engines so ICE dies out. Like dude E15 runs fine even in shit that isn't tuned for it, it's "Winter Gas" we run it all the time anyway.

 

No just some smooth brain going on about how E15 gas is a government plot to kill engines or some such BS
