We climbed ropes. We threw the javelin, pole vaults, shot put, all that stuff.

Boys also swam naked in jr highschool. People in California freak out when I tell them about that. I’m afraid all those Scandinavians in Minnesota weren’t too stuffy back in the old days.

They were notorious for jumping naked into frozen ponds right out of the sauna.

Anyhow, I never did that, and in school, boys and girls just got the indoor pool on different days. This was always win there was snow outside and we could not use the track, field equipment or play ball.

And no, the girls did not swim naked. That was the first thing that everybody asked.

Nor did they play ice hockey, but I’ll bet that has changed nowadays. Back in the old days boys played ice hockey with skates and girls did figure skating and played broom ball.

Broom ball is the same as hockey but you play with brooms and a basketball on the ice, wearing boots.

For third grade, my elementary school in Philly reopened after being rebuilt. The gym had all of the latest equipment. I was the first one to climb a rope all the way to the top.

My elementary school only had a couple ropes, with no knots. I can't climb a rope to save my life. We only had the thin padded gym mats anyway. They probably wouldn't help much if someone fell.

Not sure why anybody from California would freak out over swimming naked. They've been skinny dippin' out here for years! But yeah, things are a lot different from when I was kid. Way different! Damn I'm getting old! Haha!!

Hated those things. They were always timed as well which made it harder

Yep, I was on Rifle Team in HS.
Had an indoor range in an empty building on the back lot.

Who remembers when the centerline was made of rubber bumps, ...and if you kept your tire riding on them they would actually say (well, sounded like) "move over move over move over move over..."?

    a deep throaty sound

Highway department had to pull them all up because ---- cars were having head-on collisions due to driving the centerline just to hear it talk!

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
This is the song that never ends
Yes it goes on and on my friends
Some people started singing it not knowing what it was
And they'll continue singing it forever just because
This is the song that never ends.
