Is the lomax the highest quality folding cover that doesn't stand vertically (like the bakflip)? Or are there other really good ones I haven't noticed

I have a leer hf650 and a Caliraised bed rack. I’ve bdone many miles in Mojave and rain in Oregon. Minimal water intrusion and minimal dust intrusion with blue tarp spread across the bottom tailgate gap. I like the low profile and the 4-segments allows for the last one to open. 52F92C9E-B28C-4DC9-991C-BBA215BB03C2.jpg

RetraxPro XR. Locking aluminum hardcover, and I can still put a rack on the bed.

Couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Are you familiar with roll-up covers? When I roll up my cover it is 100% out of the way. I get full coverage, 99% waterproff. But can still haul dirt bikes, mulch etc. And when I leave stuff in the bed (skis etc.) they are covered, out of sight, and locked. I wouldn't have a truck without a roll-up cover.

How waterproof is it? Difficult to install? I like the idea of having a roll up cover vs the trifold MX4/Lomax.

Pace Edwards Jackrabbit retract on my 2nd gen. Great tonneau cover. This is the hard polycarbonate version. External key lock is a good feature to have, for convenience and also especially if you have an aftermarket electric tailgate lock that could jam or fail, so you can get into the tailgate cover from inside the bed and fix it. It does not allow an upper rack, however, if you need that feature. Retrax has that.

I've had the bakflip MX4 on all 3 of my 3rd gens. Love it. You get full bed access.

I don’t know if it is the “highest quality” as I haven’t done a ton of direct comparisons, but I’ve had one on my truck for a year with no complaints.

I appreciate that it has relatively few moving parts to potentially break and the major components are aluminum. I can brush snow and ice off quickly in the winter, which was a concern of mine for any cover.

I’m sure you can spend more, but I’m not certain how much “better” you will get.

Just curious how a roll up is 100% out of the way? Does it go into the Phantom Zone? It has to take some room...

Well if it fit perfectly on top of the bulkhead, it “could” be 100% out of the way. I feel like most rollup covers may sit a little farther back in the air (mm-inch or so), but they can be smushed if you really needed all 100% of that bed space.

On long beds the rails do not lay flat from the tailgate forward 2+ feet. This is my 2nd Lo Pro. The 1st was on my 2016 Tacoma. Bought another one last month for my '19 and TruXedo has never addressed the problem. They fit fine on short beds I have seen and heard.

I thought second gens had a key hole on the tailgate like the third gens in case the power tailgate lock failed? Nice feature though.

It’s the Mayte black aluminum hard roll up one. Love it.

I got a tiny bit of water that came through but nothing too serious ir make me worry about. Maybe I could’ve done a better job but hey it’s my first time lol.

Install was pretty easy. I just followed the instructions it came with. Relocated the rails a bit lower.

Guys quick question on the Bakflip MX4: If you’re just opening the tailgate to slide in something, do you have to open the Bakflip cover then close the tailgate first? Or can you just open the tailgate and then close it without having to flip open the backflip last panel?

You can open and close the tailgate with the MX4 closed...
