Suggestion: Without changing the head unit setting to unlock all doors at first press, you could run (add) the passenger side wires of the OEM tailgate lock to the Driver's side. The you'd have unlock of tailgate with first press with driver's door.

Pop n lock runs the wiring to driver side.
Another video show the Toyota made tailgate lock wires running to the passenger side requireing 5 metal zip ties when routing wires near the muffler areas.

I never seen metal zip ties before, my new e-cables have a extra metal bracket, touching the rear springs. Dangling, I use plastic zip ties ,not touching the metal to metal contacts. Between leaf spring and brackets.

Great videos, they make it look so simple. Just like making your own bread.

OEM is vastly superior to Pop-n-lock. Also OEM installation instructions are night and day better. There's no contest.

Floors are hard my man. Super tough, even laminate which I think you're referring to.

No videos needed for OEM tailgate lock. I'm tempted to buy you one so you can have the joy of installing it. It's just a bit of intimate time with the underbelly and a ton of zip ties, all plug and play, no need to identify wires, no dreaded vampire taps, no need to attempt to call the unanswered support phone number while trying to figure stuff out.

The pop-n-lock kit for my '02 Tundra was truly terrible, but hey, if pop-n-lock is the only option, you have to use it. When there's an OEM option, it's a no brainer. Easily worth double or triple the price of the pop-n-lock.

The OEM kit is worth every penny and better in every way. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional. I had an aftermarket kit originally and replaced it with the OEM

It’s much higher quality and quieter than the other one I had. Install is easy and there’s step by step instructions with pictures. Anyone can do it.

Thanks for the comparison of Pop n lock vs Toyota OME. In the future purchase , I will buy the Toyota factory tailgate lock. “Mahalos”

Diamondback cover and needing a key to unlock/lock the tailgate works for me. Even if my truck is broken into, at least the tailgate is another hurdle to the meth heads

Diamond Back covers, “Awesome product”. My co-worker had his Ford F-250 tailgate stolen in the parking lot at work, No key locks then, replacement cost a little over $2,000 . (Insurance)

Years ago the Toyota tailgates in Honolulu was the most stolen part. Having keys to lock the tailgates, and locking straps on the hinge. Helps or at least slows the thieves down.

Power locks for the tailgates is a convenience! With a camper top, you need to unlock the camper locks , then the tailgate lock. Every time you need to go back there.

When I brought my 2019 from Toyota, the car sales person (30 years) had NO idea the key for the tailgate was in the fob. Until I show him, I found out because I wanted a spare key. To cut those “reverse keys” I had a hard time finding a lock smith in Kona. A use car dealer had those special Reverse key cutters, but was unable to cut them correctly, he travel to Oahu and had the guy who sold the machine cut my spare key.

Its great. Trifold cover and the bed is locked and unlocked with the truck doors. My use case is usually my golf clubs are in the bed and I’d be pissed if they were stolen

No money, all went to truck...
I have bakflip bed cover and factory installed tailgate lock. I love it, no need to carry extra key for pop n lock. Locks with FOB, I always use FOB anyway cause I have manual trans. My bed is fairly secure.

I have not ever said "boy I wish I didn't have this lock installed." Never. Yeah you need to push a button to unlock, but just push the button.

Now, there is no way to have tailgate unlocked and doors locked. But I haven't had the need for that ever.

Thanks for the other product ideas - the aluminum one seems awesome but I live in the hot desert of Southern Arizona - would definitely get too hot!

Sounds like the OEM is the way to go. Does anyone have a pdf set of instructions for the OEM tailgate lock?

I purchased my Tacoma used after trading in a Nissan Frontier Pro-4x. The Tacoma was already equipped with the remote tailgate lock. The Frontier did not have it and it always bothered me having to manually lock/unlock the tailgate and so it stayed unlocked and unsecure most of the time. After Owning the Tacoma for awhile now and also having a topper i couldnt imagine not having it. Tailgate is secure, and all items in the bed secured with topper locked.

YouTube had a easy to follow Toyota tailgate lock install. Even where to put the metal and plastic ties, turn zip ties down, how to remove panels, explains what he is doing. Etc.

With a camper shell, the combo of the OEM tailgate lock with keyless entry on the shell’s back glass is an absolute must.

Is there a keyless lock for camper shells? I got two locks for the back windows, two on each side windows, total of six locks. All with matching keys. It is really easy and fast to unlock the locks. Corrosion-X. One of the better lubricant for outside locks on the trucks, plus my two ski rack locks.
All the camper shell and ski rack locks have a sliding covers on the locks. Best to keep them lube, every few months.
Corrosion-X is also safe for electronics, kills rust &. Corrosion. It is also a penetrant, use for outboard motors, tracks and slides, bicycle chains even for winterizing, cables, bushings, valves, bearings, spray on saw blades, and a tool wipe. Plus more.

I currently have a cap and have to lock both by the cap and tailgate by hand. Sometimes it suits me well but I have been very strongly considering making the switch to the tailgate lock and keyless entry on the cap
