Old Toyota 4bangers were bulletproof. My first car was a 1990 Celica, darn near ran that thing out of oil one time (poor college kid who didn't think he needed to spend money on an oil change for 25k miles...). Filled it up and it kept on going.

Really, the best way is to accelerate very steady and slowly, within reason.
Stay at 65 on the highway and laugh at the morons "saving" 5 min by going 80

The new Tundra is a HYPER disappointment, in EVERY category, especially mpg....
The Tacoma's should get 20+ with modest pedal work and 65...

Other then that, get a car, period.
Trucks and SUV's are the absolute worst on mpg.
I have been driving my brothers accent for a few months... 41+ mpg all day long...

What makes you say “hyper” disappointment about the new Tundy?

But yes I agree, a little beater commuter would probably be best. My coworker has an old Integra he put a little money into and I’m a little jealous of it.

First off, I absolutely HATE the looks. It is way to gody looking.. big ass front grill, terrible rear tail gate/spoiler design.
The body lines are off somehow to me... they just look too boxy

Its just not appealing in any way compared to the old one....

The biggest disappointment is the mpg... especially with the hybrid... what the hell is the point for ~2 mpg better? Sure, people will argue the torque, but then why buy a tundra? Why not a 7.3 or diesel if you are towing a bunch?

I am perhaps being hyperbolic, but as of now, I would never buy one...

So just a quick question. I know a lot of people here put bigger tires on their Tacos, me included. I have 33" tires and I know that my speedo is off quite a bit which means that my odometer is off too. That being said, I don't think that I can trust the mileage the truck reports or even trying to figure it out myself. based on the amount of miles the truck reports I am guessing that many others are in the same boat. That being the case, how can you trust the mileage that anyone reports without knowing if they have bigger tires or if they have had their speedo calibrated. Not hating at all, just curious.

Thus far, the Fuelly average for the 2022 Tundra is 17.3 MPG. This will probably inch up with warmer weather and certainly the hybrid should beat it. The Fuelly average for the 3rd gen Tacoma since its release is about 18.5 MPG. I know the Tacoma can easily beat its EPA ratings when driven delicately; not sure about the Tundra.

I'm currently tuned with the newest OTT tune . I'm over 5400lbs and I have stock gears with 315/75/16s yesterday I had my best tank mpgs yet and I wasn't a whole tank full either .Screenshot_20220609-053609_Fuelly App.jpg
I have a few more performance mods done but not too much . I preach this all the time but premium fuel is the way to go . Especially with OTT tune.

So I read your post quite quickly knowing that I've had the same thoughts. So best resolution is to track mileage with gps "your phone" and hand calculate. I've recalibrate my speedo and it's so hard to get it exact . My hand calculations are within .5 to .8 of what the computer says . Yesterday my computer said 21 mpg but after hand calculations it came to 21.5 mpg. So again try tracking mileage with gps . I feel it's best accuracy when odo is off

That is a great solution. To be honest I don't really track my mileage as I assume it's a truck and mileage won't be great. But I do wonder what my actual mileage is and I always question when someone post their mileage and it seems quite high. Thanks!

The difference is negligible at best. that 3mph difference isn't gonna make up the difference between my 15.5 mpg and the sticker of 20. I drive highway 90%.

For a truck these tacomas do get great mpgs it's just how you drive it depends. Many people never realize they are aggressive drivers . Slam on their brakes ,slam on their gas pedal . For the most part I'm very conservative driver . My Tacoma is fat lol. But if I get a wild hair up my ass or another driver pissed me off , mpgs out the window hello wide open throttle lol.

I'm sure once vf tuner opens up the new tundra ,they will be able to get the tundra to get mega mpgs with the turbo's
