Would not touch that tundra for a couple more years until they figure out the issues. That 4Runner is not a bad idea though. Get a fresh new 4.0 before they’re gone. Will be the same gas mileage you have now though.

That's my next goal get a new tundra and a car trailer so I can tow my Tacoma to adventures and get more balsy with it on trails . But I've also thought about putting brand new motor and transmission in it . Be cheaper than a new truck payment

Want good fuel economy and a truck? Get a diesel Colorado or Silverado 1500. Easy high 20s low 30s. Probably won’t save you any money though.

Glad I kept my 2004 Toyota matrix around. It still gets me about 26 to 27 miles per gallon, even at 210,000 MI.

Get yourself a beater car and enjoy the truck a few times a week around town and on the trails.

Stop driving like a maniac. I have 285/70/17 e rated tires and I still get 17 mpg. I also like off-road 2-3 times a week

Seriously… that’s great. Mine never have. I’ve always driven conservatively and understand city/hwy, elevation, load, and mapping considerations. Back to my post, my mpg have always been garbage.

There is no such thing as a $900 Corolla anymore, and there hasn't been for years. Mechanic's specials that can't even be driven away are now going for mid 1000s. If you can pick one up that needs some serious work and can do the work, awesome, but even that's not a sub $1k endeavor anymore. Unless you 'know a guy' but not everyone has access to such outlets. The bare minimum price for a bare minimum, drivable beater nowadays is going to be $2k, and if you want something headache free, more like $5-6k. And I'm not even talking about dealers. You can add an extra $4-6k for that crud.

Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner…not much difference. Spending a bunch of $ to switch vehicles, or reconfiguring a Tacoma to “save weight” for 1-2 MPG, don’t see how it’s worth it. Like driving 5 miles out of your way to save 0.02 cents per gallon.

How do you like your GFC? I've been contemplating a shell or going all in on getting a GFC.

I just did this math myself after a long road trip out of curiosity. 33" tires. You get better mpg than the truck reports with bigger tires if I'm thinking about it correctly, since your actual mileage traveled is farther than what the odometer reads based on tire revolutions, less revolutions on bigger tires = computer thinks you didn't go as far.

My 33" tires are 1.078 x bigger than the stock 30.6" tires (assuming new). I compared distances between gas stops from my Fuelio app based on the odometer with what Google listed for distances and came up with closer to 1.065 difference on average, probably mostly due to tire wear and rough estimates. Not able to do so for every stop, since we didn't always travel 100% linearly from A to B, but this was still over 2,500 miles or so where I could figure it out. Not sure what the truck displays reported for mpg's for comparison.

Difference was truck odometer mpg = 16.9 mpg, Google adjusted odometer mpg = 18.0 mpg for 33" tires vs stock.

So in general, I don't think it much matters what people report vs. actual mileage. Corrected or uncorrected, it should be within 1 mpg for 33's, or 2 mpg for 35's. Enough to not matter as much as other factors already discussed like elevation, driving habits, mods, etc. when trying to get a useful comparison from truck to truck for mpg's.

It's common for me to back up 1K mile round trips through out the southeast. Doing nothing special I see 25+mpg on a trip. In town it hangs around 22/23mpg. If I pedal it myself(no CC) it shows in the high 26's. Granted in Texas I still only drive 70mph. Not that it makes a difference I run M1 0-30 in all my cars.
