As far as COLA goes, my last raise was close to 10%. Not quite covering inflation but close enough that I'm happy staying where I am. I work for a small business though. Large companies have a harder time with stuff like that. Hope you get what you feel you are worth. Preemptive looking is always a good idea just have that other job secured before you drop the "I regret to inform you" email.

 

Luckily I can be petty. I choose not to, unless they give me a good reason to, but I have the option.

I work in healthcare as an actual useful clinician, which generally means you only get a raise when you change jobs. Raises are for administrators and other parasites only.

 

Limit order in for SPYD at 42.50. Might grab some VNQ as well. Everything else needs more pain.

 

That bottom line is all they are worried about. Companies are in an interesting position. Do they increase costs, pass that to consumers then give COLA to staff? Or do they increase costs and keep the extra cash so the company itself effectively gets a COLA. I'm betting it's a combo of both but favors the company profit heavily. lol

On an unrelated note I posted my '04 Silverado for sale locally today, my
DCLB OR Lunar Rock is scheduled to be built next week so I may get it
around the end of July. We have 3 other cars so if it sells quick it's no
big deal, if not I'll trade it in.

 

The fucked up thing in healthcare is that our cost passing is to insurance companies, who have contractually set costs. Hospitals have little to no pricing power, which means revenue is static, which means fuck rapid adjustment to inflation.

The tradeoff? Job security. I picked from 3 offers within 60 min of my current residence as a new grad/new license in Dec 2008. You may recall, that wasn't the best job market at the time, but I had no trouble.

The raises suck, but I am recession proof.

Also, realizing this 15 years ago is what set me hardcore on the path of investing. Since companies and I have rivalrous interests, there's only one solution I see: I have to own them.

 

Lots of 52wk lows being hit across the board.

The central/world banks are already talking about the upcoming big R, so it can be assumed our market will decline even further through out this year and Feds will continue to increase interest rates at half basis point or more to 'stop' inflation. History looks like its going to repeat itself with most countries becoming a stagnation economy.

 

Europe markets almost 3% in decline.

 

Between this and the inflation, I think the only way you win in the long run is buy in then wait the 1-3 years for things to push back up 20-40%. I don't see any other realistic way of recouping this lost value, especially not on the run. Bond yields are shit. Div yields are shit. Price growth is *negative*.

The plan of attack right now has to be "How do I be ahead of this 5 years from now", not "How do I stay ahead of this as we go", because you ain't gonna

 

It WAS. Now its not so much, we are flooded with new residents from our neighbor to the west. I live in Show Low Az and its beautiful up here. I have the NF about 1 min from my house. But now the streets are packed with traffic. The forest is packed and trashed now. I have to take garbage bags with me when I take my dogs running so I can pick up garbage. / End rant

 

Used to live in Cottonwood. RE prices are out of control there now too. Still a great area but I imagine Californians will find a way to ruin in the next couple decades because...thats what they do. Just look at CO.

 

Oh yeah I forgot we were talking about this a couple weeks ago. Yeah they will. Unfortunately. Without going into politics they already have. Been red for how long then all of a sudden we flipped to blue?! Ohwell it is what it is.

We're on the way there. Bought some SPYD and VNQ this AM. VTI still above previous lows. We'll see what the next couple weeks bring.
