Drive like you have an egg between your foot and the gas pedal.

Unless you literally do that, it's a free mod. Either way, it's pretty cheap.

I can average over 21 mpg combination city and highway. Over 22 mpg just highway miles with this adjustment.

I did this test multiple times and never saw the bump from ethanol free to overcome the price difference. There was an improvement, but the cost per mile was still higher with the ethanol free. Granted I did this test in my FJ, but I repeated it multiple times from different stations selling ethanol free and it was always a higher cost with the ethanol free. I tried ethanol free 92 octane vs 87 also, and same results, economically it wasn't an improvement for me. It did seem a little smother but that's probably a little subjective. Glad it was an improvement for you. I haven't bothered with the Taco, as I don't think I am willing to make the compromises that count to make it worth it. I will just keep thumping down the highway in my lead brick.

This is an obvious one I guess, but I will add that recently I did remove everything from my roof rack except my solar panel, and picked up about 2 mpg. Only tested one tank but I got 40 more miles which was pretty sweet. I had two rifle boxes and an RTT up there.

I drive too fast, so I am probably my own worst enemy for fuel economy. That and I am too lazy to take off armor and remove camping gear and fridge between trips so I am always dragging extra weight around..

I bet sales of those magnets you clamp over your fuel lines are making a resurgence. I'm sure it's all the rage in the 3rd gen forum.

Get one of those as let us know how you fair.

Tire pressure. We go through lots of temp circles here in the high desert so the psi fluctuates quite a bit.

E rated 235/85/r16's weigh less than the wider versions. Higher air pressure in the tires, but mainly slower and lower right foot pressure. I have a shell, racks and a bunch of crap in the bed & behind the seats. 17 commuting, 19 San Diego<>Mammoth round trip. My scan gauge has mpg average and I turn on the instant mpg every once in awhile

most likely problem involving the timing chain would be worn or broken chain guides or tensioner. I would assume it would get real noisy if that happened. Not sure what your referring to with the oil pump in relation to the chain. The pump isn’t ran off the chain and can be replaced easily without removing the timing cover. I just replaced my oil pump about a month ago because it’s cover was leaking. It’s a simple half hour job.

Thanks I’m new to my tacoma and I made an assumption about the oil pump without looking too far into the details. I assumed it was like my f150, shoulda known better.

In case you're serious, yes I have.

I had no idea how much stress I carried that was purely sourced from my driving habits. Its something you don't notice until you lose it.

But if you find yourself having to take a few minutes to wind down after you get to work or when you get home, or if you feel tired after gripping the wheel for a three hour drive... You're pushing too hard.

Embrace the slow lane. Hang out and cruise at a leisurely 3-5 below the speed limit, and watch the poor bastards to your left lose their shit because some dumb-fuck trucker that's going a measly five-over the limit is in their way. Yeah, that used to be me, not too long ago. I used to look every bit as rediculous, full of that impotent rage. But now... I can drive all day and be every bit as relaxed and refreshed as the minute I started the car.

It's wild. I had no idea what I was, but Im glad I got better.

I was indeed serious…thanks for the honest answer. I suspected so, because it’s relatable for many.
