Welp, that price increase happened earlier than expected

Just received a "coupon" email from HF that didn't actually include any coupons for the US General stuff, only the janky Yukon stuff. But also put it right there in your face how expensive all the US General stuff costs now. The 56" box is now almost $1000

 

I did see that this week when I stopped in to get a double bank chest …but I did t see that type of increase

 

What lube do you use for ratchets?

Do you use different kinds for lower vs higher tooth count?

 

Yeah it sucks. I was going to buy US General chests when my garage/addition project was complete in Dec 2020. The 44” were $499.

But unfortunately I hired the shittiest contractor and the project isn’t complete and the boxes are nearly double the price now.

 

Don't need much. #1 grease. Gear oil. Ask the manufacturer curious what they say.

 

Dont remember who posted about them, but i picked up one of these Speed Fabrication tool holders.

Not a bad piece overall.

 

Any recommendations for a long reach plier set? Looking for needle nose, 45* and 90* bent. Not sure I need to get hose grips in there.

I'm just a DIYer so I'm trying to find that balance of good quality and affordability.

Honestly...you'd probably be happy with the harbor freight set. Their pliers are ok and hard to beat for the price. I'd give them a try and see how you like them and if you dont then you can try another brand. Sunex makes a set and then Knipex has a set (but $$)

 

I have the HF straight and 45 and they do the job for as often as I use them.

 

Yeah I was thinking that would probably be fine for me.

I was also looking at the Crescent Double-X long reach set. Apparently same manufacturer makes these and Gearwrench’s version.

 

Wondering if anyone has any good mechanisms or home built strategies for canoe/paddle board storage. I have a 17’ canoe and a 10’ paddle board I want to build a pulley system for to raise and lower it from my garage ceiling. I’m sure I could trial and error a good way, but I figured no need to reinvent the wheel if anyone out there has a good system. I’ve got open trusses and 10’ to the bottom chord, so headroom isn’t an issue

 

What 2" belt (long belt) sander for sharpening and such is recommended (Under $1000)?

I have never used it, but ran all Harken hardware when I was racing sailboats. They make good stuff.

If nothing else, it can give you an idea as to how to make your own.

Ended up not liking the screwdriver organizer that I quoted above. Was a bit too clunky for my liking. I replaced it with a magnetic unit. I like way better than the tray...

I believe that's the same one you can get at Harbor Freight. It looks just like the one I have that came from there.

My dad bought me this today as an early birthday present. This is the Husky 41x24.5 16 drawer unit. Now I actually have a nice tool chest and space to grow a solid tool collection! I’ll be paying extra attention to anyone’s recommendations for socket, wrench, screwdriver organizers, etc.

I picked it up from Home Depot this morning. Gave it a once over before loading and noticed the assembler had all but stripped out the screws securing the top chest to the bottom. Upon me pointing it out, they were kind enough to swap out for new screws and I was good to go.

*The picture makes it look like the tool chest isn’t sitting level. It’s actually fine, my garage floor just has a slight slope to it. This is a temporary location until I have a detached garage built.
