Nice, except for San Onofre. Never enjoyed that campground. What can you tell me about those little ramps you are using for leveling the truck in your sequoia pic?

Yeah, San Onofre was more of a nostalgia thing for me more than anything. The beach nearby was a Friday night hang out for me before my son was even a thought.

These are the levelers I've been using. I think they're good for harder surfaces but on soft dirt they kinda sink a bit with not having the surface area of those stackable square style.

My buddy always gives me crap for not posting pics. Not sure where to put them?
So, heres a few from this weekend.
This campsite, while pretty cool and secluded. I woke up to being swarmed by horseflies trying to eat me alive. So bad, no coffee and quick take down of the tent stuffed into the dry box.

This is a better spot I found after exploring for a few hours.

Took a little trip with the Doggo last month from California to So. Nevada and Utah. Met up with an old friend in Utah.

Southwest of Georgetown Lake, western Montana; pulled off the side of a forest service road in an alpine meadow for the night; looking south at the Bitterroot Mountains:

time to batten down the hatches as a series of early evening T-storms roll through:
    P1010647.jpg

one of the storms started producing hail, just BB size at first, but then the pea-sized hail began, luckily nothing larger:

got down into the upper 40's at night; despite this, King Mosquito and his ravenous legions were out all night after dusk, but the Leer saved my ass again with the window screens; very satisfying watching all those proboscises probing though the screens in vain

Last weekend for any sort of fires outside designated campgrounds for El Dorado National Forest until November, sad life.

3 days in the southwestern foothills of the Pryor Mountains, southern Montana
looking north at the Pryor Mts, as an early evening t-storm rolls through:
    P1010750.jpg

morning view south, slept with back open both nights, no dang blasted skeeters here :D:

can't be careless wearing flip flops, these toe stickers are everywhere:

living large, this Mt. House meal was only 5 years past the expiration date:
    P1010848.jpg

a concavity along the canyon wall combined with a large sandy base= perfect pistol range; I was frugal, only shot about 100 rounds in 3 days:
    P1010877.jpg

as I was resetting one of my beer can targets, I noticed a loud rattling and found this inside:
    P1010879.jpg

what kind of funky ballistics would cause this? Anyone else ever find a bullet inside of one of your targets?

    Edit:
my theory is a low shot went through the sand before entering the can

Looks like a fun trip. And you have the essentials like Coors Light... I bet it was a methane fest after the C- & Mountain House combo. Haha

Just did a quick one nighter to Thousand Trails (membership) just outside of Idylwild.
I thought going up to 6700 feet might be a bit cooler - nope, still 90 for a high.
Also, first use of a new tent.
Instead of doing a few short hikes, I just sat in the shade with the doggos and had some beers.

This northwestern area of the Bighorn Mountains is only accessible part of the year, mostly alpine meadows with conifer stands:
