Confirmed rides like shit - but that's not necessarily our priority on Guided rides. Logo display and perception are factors we also consider

Our target demographic doesn't push our Guides' riding ability to the point where it really matters. Dentists on Yetis don't get airborne too often :p

I have mounts for two in a narrow space between other stuff in my camper buildout. I have no doubt you could fit 3+ bikes on fork mounts

Looking at getting into a MTB here soon. My buddy has a co-op 1.1 and has been riding on the paved with me. There are apparently some good trails here, so been browsing the used market. Doing some research to try and wrap my head around all the different bikes and options. Found a 2015 trek X-caliber that I'm eyeing for $500.

Its a big rabbit hole and a lot to digest. Heres a recent article on selecting a mtb https://www.bikeradar.com/advice/buyers-guides/best-mountain-bike/ should help you get an idea of what you are looking for.

That being said a 7 year old entry level bike at $500 is not a good deal - you can get a new bike for not much more.

Alrighty that's the kinda feedback I need, since I'm over my head a bit. I've noticed a lot of people do think they're sitting on a gold mine. I'll take a look at that article. Thanks!

Edit: any recommendations maybe for a newb? Seems the marlin and x-calibers are kinda entry level bikes so that's what I was looking for. Mostly looking at used to save some dough if it turns out that MTB is not for me, but some of the used bike frame sizes are a bit too big and might have to go new. Any recommendations there other than the treks? Found a place that has some inventory of left over new 2021 polygon bikes, so looking down that route too.

People are probably still on a comedown from covid pricing.

You can check size charts for the bikes you are interested in; its not uncommon to fall in-between sizes and test riding both to see what you prefer. The three most common entry level mtb's are Giant Talons, Specialized Rockhoppers and Trek Marlins. There are tons of other smaller companies with their own offering in this segment. Polygons were/are a direct to consumer brand, but some shops may have worked out getting inventory from them.

Pinkbike is a good place to look for used bikes in their buysell classifieds.

Jesus... that's a, "backwoods, no help is coming for 3 days" size....
Might be bigger than what I keep in my truck, might be I should rethink that.
Personal sentiment is if you're dragging around that much, a hip pack is missing the point...
Oveja Negra is an awesome Colorado company. I have a half frame bag on the gravel rig, that's bulletproof. Would love to know if anyone is riding with their non-bike-mounted offerings

Riding at home is different than riding in GA. Blood tax has been paid.

Went and did some cleanup on two of my local trail systems the last couple days. Still too damn wet and muddy to ride. They've been closed since the end of October.

The weather has been nice the last two weekends though which has brought people out to ride them anyway. There's going to be a lot of repair work out there. Ugh. I get it.... I'm antsy to ride too but I wish people would respect those that maintain the trails and the other users.

At least I had a week in BC to ride mountain bikes about a month ago.

what’s average wait time at most parks when your waiting for the lift back up? I’ve only been to shuttle parks, never ski lift parks.

You should try this Ube Heaven purple porter from Santa Monica Brew Works to match your jersey.

I've never waited more than about 5-10 minutes at deer valley. That was probably peak COVID too, when they were making groups spread out.
