I use a tried and true method called "the kairo method" to determine how fuk things are. The kairo method is based on an assumption of 2 people in professional careers, not married, no kids. Total monthly expenses payable on less than 1/2 of one person's take-home.

When those people actively start budgeting for things like food, fuel, and travel, things are big fuk.

The internet is literally as important of a utility these days as heat, gas and electricity lol. You cannot function in this society in any meaningful economic way without broadband internet.

Customer support for most problems? Internet

Yes, there's obviously workarounds to every single one of those conditions for outlying individuals, but the 1st world runs on broadband access and connectivity.
