Leveling kit, wheel spacers, personally fabricated modified frame, and some sweet diamond plate to cover up a smashed driver side! Because I was stupid
I’ve read alot of posts on issues like this and thanks to the knowledge I found on here I fixed the problem! I used what I learned along with my normal way of mechanicing, trial and error!
I have an 06 tacoma 4.0L 4x4, automatic tranny. I drove in a water hole and got stuck ! Water over driver seat, an inch from covering the driver side headlight. I left the truck running for the whole 2 1/2hrs it took to get it out by myself! As soon as I got it free I backed out and eased a few miles. It expectedly started slipping. Disconnected the drive shaft and towed it home. Had alot of issues but this is about the tranny. I flushed the trans myself, added 13.5qts of Valvoline Maxlife ATF and lucas. Still slipping. Flushed and filled 5 times with same results. I changed the SL2 solenoid as I was getting a code P0766, and the SLT solenoid (I forgot the code). It then shifted fine for about 20 miles then started slipping, hesitating before engaging and jerking hard when it did. I finally ordered the “Toyota WS” and added “ST1” stop slip. It slipped a few times in and out of overdrive when in cruise control. I drove it in 4th gear about 50miles. Then I tried OD again, slipped a little then engaged, I drove from North Florida to Ohio and it did great!!! Thank the Lord! Next plan was replacing tranny, I do my own work and a rebuild would eat my lunch.
I know people that use the valvoline with no issues, but not mine! So before you try anything else try the Toyota WS! Or dont use your Tacoma like a jon boat!!! Hope this helps someone!
