I just read about fire glass. I never heard of it before, but I like the look.

 

I haven't bought a set yet. Is there one more water resistant over another?

My neighbor buy them and a few months later the light is temperamental. Plus, it doesn't work in the rain.

I built mine on top of concrete pavers. Scoop it out when the ash gets a few inches deep and chuck it in the woods.

Tbh, this is probably the most in depth fire pit discussion I've ever been a part of. Hell, most people in my area dont even use a pit. Sticks/Brush + Diesel + Match + Miller Lite = A good time.

 

This is a nice yard.

Fancy isn't for everyone, but it's nice to look at.

When my friend owned his landscaping business, we had to look at fancy landscaping ideas. Then construct it with a budget in mind.

 

It's good bouncing ideas around. I have opinions, ideas, from different members. This is what good about a forum.

We used to use steel barrel, sticks, twigs, bushes, then newspaper and lighter fluid. Then it was banned because people use barrels that were unsafe, and started fire to the surrounding.

 

It like any remodeling. Sure, you can build a $50k+ HGTV-esque kitchen with top shelf materials. Or, you can build something that looks damn near identical for less than $20k using cheaper less quality products. I think people get too wrapped up in sticker shock without realizing that 90% of the time theres a cheaper way to achieve the same result.

 

Sometime the inexpensive items will outlast, outperform the more expensive items.

The only thing my friend refuse to do were fire pits. This is from a liable stand point. He doesn't want to be responsible for someone else error.

 

Safety first around those fire pits.

 

Question for anybody knowledgeable.

I want to add a back door to my house. The plan is to replace this double window off my dining room with either a sliding glass door, or a single exterior door with a window next to it.


If I do a single door, due to the size of the room and my dining table, Id like to use a left hand outswing door on the right side of that window. Problem is, without waiting months that type of exterior door with a window in it is just about impossible to find.

So, can I just take a left hand inswing door and flip it around to use it as an outswing? I understand that security hinges are a must (been robbed once, experience shows they just go for windows anyways ), but other than that I really dont see any other problems.

Im Pretty sure we had the left inswing flipped on outside door to open out. The rain ramp pointed in but it was under an over hang/carport that i later enclosed. Rain intrusion would be my only concern.

 

Yeah that what Im reading too. That eve does pretty good at keeping that window dry, but I could see a hard storm being an issue. I could make an inswing work, all its gonna be for is letting the dog out, so its not like it needs to open all the way and hit my dining table. I will have a patio poured there eventually too.

 

do you have anywhere locally that hangs doors ? I properly hung outswing door will be weatherstripped correctly and seal far better at the sill than inswing doors

 

Probably. But the budget is stretched for this project as I will need a patio poured and some grading done along with that. Looking to go a cheaper route.

And, after measuring real quick, I think a 32" inswing door will work in the space better than I originally thought.

 

Stumbled upon a guy wrapping up a job tonight while walking the pup. Looked professional, drove a sweet truck and he said he'd be glad to do it. Gonna call for a quote this week.

 

Are you going to bring items in/out through the patio doors?

My friend's father install a 29" or 30" wide door. It was something small. Now we can't get furniture, fridge, out the door. We barely fit walking through the door. No one knows what he was thinking when he installed a narrow door. Plus the exterior is all brick around the door. It is going to be a pain to install a wider door.

 

Got 2 other exterior doors in optimum positions, one is a 36".

 

Well these were a waste of money haha
