Does anyone know of an aftermarket or different head unit that has the ability to change the same functions as the original head unit does? Please see enclosed pics of my stereo.

I think you lose out on the ability to change those settings if you go with an aftermarket unit. But you can set it at what you want and keep it that way and then change the head unit out.

I fear that you are correct. The only way to change the settings afterwards would be to reinstall the original unit again. and that one is so aesthetically boring and otherwise not very functional. I cant even get a navigation app...

i believe the carista app, or techstream alternatives might do it as well.

i never cared. the head unit got swapped as fast as i could get the parts ordered. i set everything how i wanted it, and yanked the garbage.

As far as I can tell, that carista app will do everything that the stock stereo can!

I’m not 100% that it can do everything but if you google hard, you can find the complete list of features. It’s mostly a techstream alternative for features you can’t change from the head unit.
I used mine to change some annoyance features and now to set tpms sensor ids when I rotate my spare in.
Something to keep in mind is that carista is subscription based, and there’s no “lifetime” option. $50 for 12 months, $20 for 3 but I just pay $10 for a month when I rotate tires and then cancel before it renews

I'm a little late replying but yes, you can get an aftermarket radio capable of changing vehicle settings like the OEM does. You will need an idatalink maestro to connect the radio with the trucks computer which you'll also need to keep your steering wheel controls.

I have a Kenwood DMX907S but most any higher end aftermarket radio should be good.

Edit:. That's my cat, Hobbes, as my wallpaper. You can use something else.

Someone once posted that there was a lifetime option that they didn't advertise, but I never found it. I still have the box, but don't have a paid subscription because I felt that there advertising was dishonest. I'll probably keep the box and do what you do if I need to go in and change anything. I used it to change the number of flashes on the auto cancelling directionals.

That was the main reason I got one lol 3 flashes? What?? I maxed mine out and did a handful of other little customizations.
They used to offer a lifetime subscription but apparently switched to the current tiered model in the past couple years and started offering a free month trial instead of a free week

I set it at five flashes, which works for me.

IMHO, the "free month" is kind of a scam. You have to pay for a full year to get the "free trial." So, you're either paying for 11 months and get one month free OR you're paying for a year in which case you should get 13 months. I called them on that and they claimed it was a requirement to put the app on Google Play. They also didn't have a disclaimer that not all features would be available on all trim levels of Tacomas.

It left a bad taste in my mouth, so the box just sits here.

That was over a year ago, so maybe they have improved it, but it was also very slow to read any engine data at all.

So let me preface this by saying I’m not defending carista. The monthly payment thing is a BS money grab and I’m sorry you had such a negative experience!
Things must have changed though. This page has a disclaimer, and they call the other Tacoma specific list a “sample list”.
    https://caristaapp.com/p/toyota-uds
But I’d also be pissed if I got it for a specific thing and found out it wasn’t available on my trim!
The full year to get the first month is billed monthly as a subscription now, so you just cancel before the month is up and it’s actually free

any app like carista that is a subscription is a no-go.

I understand subs for music and video, but not that.

Ever where when they offer a free trial, you have too sign up, a lot of times you will need a credit card. Att offer free movies, it took over three months going to the ATT, talking to so many different people before they cancel.Sometimes impossible to cancel!

Never take a free trial, if you are planning NOT to use them. So easy to sign-up, they make it so difficult to cancel. That is how the “game” is played!

Free trial ,”all you can eat”. Sign here, credit card here. You got 5 minutes. All you can eat. Wow?

Canceling is a single button press in the phones’ settings menu though.
$10 to change TPMS ids every 6k since I’m already rotating myself is worth it to me. Others would rather drop the coin on one of the scanners and that’s cool too.
    To each their own
