I drive in the sand a couple of times a week. I typically run the tire PSI around 30 and prefer 4lo. The softer the sand, the more I air down. The most I will air down to is around 12 PSI but that is if the sand is super soft! I usually keep my travel speeds to 10 mph or less, I am always worried about flinging sand around and sandblasting anything that comes into contact. If I am on flat ground, sometimes I'll run 12 PSI and cruise in 2hi.

If you think you are getting stuck, spinning the tires is about the worst thing you can do. Best bet is to air down and try again. If really necessary, you can try putting a piece of wood under the tires for some traction getting out of a tricky spot

Air down. That's it. Everything else is driver preference.

Driving a stick in soft sand for 10+ years, never got stuck. The people I've seen get stuck are people who don't bother to air down. 4Lo and start in 2ond is the way. You don't need a locker.
